Asher looked at me in bewilderment. "Your parents really did that? There's no way."

I nodded my head slowly. "Unfortunately its all true. My father turned every one of his connections against me so I was on my own with no money or home. I had to take multiple loans to get myself through law school and thankfully, a classmate noticed my situation and let me live with him."

"What the hell? Why didn't you tell me or ask for help?" Asher asked in shock.

"I didn't want to trouble anyone. I felt pathetic for not handling it myself so I kept my situation a secret. I did my best not to draw any attention but almost everyone at the LIL knew who I was. To save my family's reputation, I stayed away from everyone."

"God damn, you've really been through a lot. I'm sorry you went through this by yourself. I wish you had told me."

I shrugged and crossed my arms in front of my chest. "I'm glad I didn't. Those three years of hardship were really eye opening. But it did get better afterwards. After I graduated, my parents begged me to come back home. Of course they never apologized but they payed my tuition in full and put me back in the will."

"They took you off the will because you didn't want to go to med school? That's wild!"

"Yeah, I was pretty shocked as well. And so now as payback for not listening to them, they want me to marry the girl of their choosing. If I don't, they'll disown me."

Asher jumped out his seat. "DISOWN? Are your parents okay? Why on earth would they do that?"

"That's just how things work for them. My four older sisters married into elite English families . My older brother Ethan is engaged to a French politicians daughter. Even my mother was the daughter of a famous Korean businessman. So that leaves me as the odd one out. My father has called me the disappointment of the family on multiple occasions."

"Wow, I mean that's terrible. Even Jared didn't have it this bad," stated Asher shaking his head.

"Yeah I just ran into him and his wife in the lobby. He seems happy even though he was forced into it."

"I mean he struggled a lot but nonetheless he's happy now."

"Mhmm. Lucky guy."

Jared and Asher were my classmates in high school when we were attending Cambridge together. I remember Jared telling us he was supposed to marry this girl he didn't know. I felt bad for him at the time but I find myself in the same situation years later.

"Wait so what's you plan?" He asked anxiously.

"Well I do feel better coming to see you because I had no idea you were with Jenna. I'm thinking that if you demand to marry her, her parents will give up."

Asher shook his head.

"My father disapproves of her father. I basically came here without telling him so if he finds out, Ill also be in trouble."

I couldn't help but let out a chuckle. "You're making fun of me for arguing with my parents but you're in the same boat."

He rolled his eyes. "Whatever. Even if he tries something I'm an only child so he can't exactly cut me off. Worst case, he'll be frenemies with the Kensingtons. But in your case, even if I end up marrying Jenna, your parents will just find someone else for you. It seems that marriage is their solution to keeping you in control."
