The creature lunged towards me, its claws inches from my face. But then, as if by some miracle, it stopped. It growled and snarled, but it didn't move.
And then, just as suddenly as it had appeared, it vanished.
I stumbled outside, gasping for breath. The villagers were gathered around me now, their eyes filled with fear and apprehension.
"You should not have come here," one of them said gravely.
But I knew I could not leave. Not yet. There was still so much to uncover, so much that was unknown.
And I was determined to find out what it was.
