Family isn't always easy

An awkward family dinner

The family peacefully sat at the dinner table. It was a Friday which meant takeout!
It also meant Etho would be coming at some point to pick up Bdubs. He normally comes between 8-11 in the morning but sometimes he comes at night.

Tonight included

They were eating relatively quietly.
Until the doorbell rang.

Cleo got up to go see who was at the door with Bdubs attempting to subtly sneak behind her to see as well. Scar knew better than to attempt to be sneaky against his mom.

"You're here earlier than usual" Cleo said to her ex-husband
"I was in the area, I can go if-"
"DAD!" Bdubs screamed running towards his father hugging him

Scar wheeled over to the doorway of the kitchen
"Hey bud" Etho said
"Dad, you should join us for dinner!" Bdubs said

Etho looked at Cleo.

"Sure, come in"

Bdubs grabbed Ethos hand bringing him inside and over to the table, Cleo following.
Scar stood up from his chair going over to a chair at the head of a table.

"Dad, sit here!"
Etho went over to where Scar told him to sit, picking up the boy and placing him back in his chair.

"I didn't stand that much today dad, I'm fine" Scar said slightly whining
"Go back to your food" Etho said sitting down in the seat he was told to.

Scar wheeled back to his seat. Bdubs, and Cleo sat in their seats as well.

The four stayed silent for a moment.
"So, this is nice" Etho said
"You sure? You don't seem happy to be here?" Cleo said
"Oh no I'm happy, I'd be here more often if I could"
"You're allowed, you can be here if you want"

The four stayed silent again

"So, bdubs, how was your day?"
Bdubs grumbled slightly, crossing his arms and pouting.
"It sucked, I got called a traitor on the playground by everyone"
"Are the other kids giving you a hard time?"
"Yes" Bdubs pouted
"What about you Scar?"

Scar stayed silent for a second

"My day was wonderful! I got an A on my test, and got out of gym class, and Uncle G took me out for ice cream after school!"
"I didn't get ice cream" Bdubs mumbled
"Why didn't you get ice cream?"
Bdubs mumbled his response
Etho didn't further push him.

Until Scar said
"Bdubs got into another fight"
"Another fight? How many fights have you been getting into?" Etho asked
"Third this week" Cleo answered

Etho sighed

"Why'd you get into a fight?"
"This jerk-face was making fun of Scar for being in a wheelchair! So I punched him in the face!"
"Bdubs, the kid was an 8th grader, They were over double your height! You could have gotten really hurt" Scar said
"Hold on, you got into a fight with a kid who's four or five years older than you?"
"six years older" bdubs mumbled

Etho sighed
Cleo looked annoyed

"Hey, how about we go play catch outside?" Etho said
"Really!" Scar asked
"Yeah, let's give your mom a break"
"Yay!" The boys exclaimed with Bdubs quickly standing up
"Go have fun," Cleo said.

Bdubs ran outside with Scar wheeling behind him. Etho stayed behind for a minute

"So, Bdubs has been getting into fights?"
"Quite a few."
"You want me to talk to him about it?"
"We saw how that worked out last time you talked to one of your kids about fighting"
"Cleo, I did everything I could, neither of us could have stopped what happened."
"Just, go play with the kids, they're happy when they get to see you"
"I'm working on moving, Trying to find a place so Scar can-"
"Go play catch before they worry"
Etho nodded before going to the backyard
