Chapter sixty-two

"Thanks Oli, now can you see what I'm dealing with all the time?" she laughed. "Oh yeah" I laughed.. "Just wait to yours gets older, and they're twins so it will definitely be worse!" he said. "Oh don't remind me, I hope they'll behave like Max and I" I answered and smiled. "Yeah, they probably will.. I'm so excited to meet them, and for the boys to get some cousins" she smiled."Me too, I'm so excited" I answered. "And btw, you look fantastic" she smiled, and so did I. It's always nice to hear, and especially when being pregnant.

Charles's pov

"Charles come on, we gotta go" Andrea said as we were leaving the hotel. Today was Saturday so it was the day of the sprint shootout and the sprint race. Yesterday I got pole in qualifying so that's really nice because then I'm starting from p1 at the race tomorrow. "I'm coming!" I said and walked with him to the car. We drove towards the track, in the meantime I took my time to check the different social media, first up was instagram, where I saw Olivia's story. She was visiting her grandmother Elena's grave, since a few days ago marked ten years since her passing..

I decided to post a little post to my instagram of Olivia, simply because I was missing her a lot right now. It's so weird not having her around, because she usually is with me around the world, which I love! But I guess it's hard for her to travel so much during the pregnancy.

I arrived at the track, I walked with Andrea and a few others from my team. Fans were screaming my name, so I of course went to sign some caps, tshirts, shoes and other weird things, then I took pictures with them. I love interacting with the fans.. - Then I greeted Pierre, Lando and Lewis who I met on my way to the hospitality.

I had a quick meeting, which wasn't that exciting to be honest, but it had to be done.. After the meeting I spent a little time with Carlos, which was nice. - "How's Olivia at home?" Carlos asked. "She's alright, she's spending the week with her dad, which is nice because then I know she's not alone" I smiled. "Great, and the twins are also great right? How far along is she now? 21 weeks or?" he asked. "She enters week 25 soon, and the twins are perfect! I can't wait to meet them, Carlos" I said while my heart almost melted, it's crazy how much love you can have for someone you'd never actually met.. "Wow, time flies.. before we know it, you're a dad!" Carlos said with a smile. "Yeah, how crazy is that!" I laughed. I'd never thought I would become a dad so early in my life, and especially not when I'm on the top of my career. I always thought I would wait to start a family until I'm done with formula one, but thinking about it now I couldn't ask for more, this is the best decision ever, and I love the fact that my kids will experience their dad racing in formula one, it cannot get more special.

After a little amount of time I had talked with Carlos, and also warmed up with Andrea. I did some physical training and some reaction tests, which were great! It was now time to get into the car, and get ready for the shootout. It's the first race weekend with the new format, and I'm quite excited for it, I really hope things will go smoothly..

Everything went great in Q1, I was setting perfect times and topped in front of Max by nearly half a second. "Red flag, red flag" Xavi said over the radio. "What happened?" I asked as I drove back towards the pit. "Sargeant crashed in turn 15, looks like a big one" he answered. "Is he alright?" I asked and pulled up to my garage. "He's out" he answered, and I was relieved. I hate all crashes, but these big ones always hit harder.

Q2 went perfectly like the first one, I finished P2 so I was more than ready to give it everything in the last one, Carlos were P3 and our team looked amazing this weekend, I hope we're soon back to being the top team we're supposed to be..

Everything went perfect for me, but Carlos struggled a bit in the last sector which made him finish in P4. But I finished P1 because Checo couldn't top my last sector. I was so happy, I had just gotten the sprint pole, and I'm starting on pole for the sprint race later.

I pulled up to Parc Ferme and ran to my team, they congratulated me.. It was quite sad not having Olivia between them, but I know she is cheering at me from home, and that itself is making me happy.

I got interviewed, then I congratulated Checo and Max on P2 and P3 and then I went back to my garage where I met up with Xavi to talk a bit about the sprint qualifying, and what to expect for the sprint race in a few hours...

The hours flew by and I stepped out of my car after finishing the sprint race, we didn't have the right race pace to keep up with Checo in the red bull, but I managed to finish in P2 with max behind me, so I was satisfied with that, but still I was really hoping for a win.

I walked back to my driver's room, where I changed clothes and relaxed for a few minutes until I had to do more interviews. I swear it's one interview after another, it can be really exhausting.. I took my phone and called Olivia to ask about her day, since I didn't have time earlier to call her.."Hey love, how are you doing?" I asked as she picked up the phone. "Hey, I'm great, just finished watching the sprint, you did really well!" she said. "Thanks love, I mean I wished for more, but I'm happy with it.. It's great being on top for a change" I smiled, even though she couldn't see it, because we didn't facetime. "I know, I'm proud of you" she answered.. We talked for a while, it was great hearing her voice again. She told me about what she had been doing today, and it sounded like a really good day. I'm happy she enjoys being back home in her hometown, we should probably do that more often in the future..
