I rub my head roughly. I had the kind of headache that eased with more pressure applied.

I pick up the medication bottle I'd gotten from enid yesterday. did I already take one? I decide I don't care and pop a pill regardless.

I lay back on the bed and take a deep breath.

enid said my arm was still heavily injured. amidst the chaos the night it got broken, she doesn't think it healed correctly. something about the alignment being off.

"how are you feeling?" someone asks.

tiredly, I loll my head to the side. anna.

"I'm all right. tired," I answer.

"Is there anything I can do?" her voice sounded like an echo- like I was hearing her words through my head, not my ears.

"no, I'm just gonna rest up. I think mom is trying to figure out what to do with mr. earl. I-"

my eyes meet the person as they sit down in the edge of the bed.

that wasn't anna.

"you all right?" matt asks. "you look like you've seen ghost."

"dad?" I ask.

he smiles. "I can't tell you how happy I am to hear you call me that."

I throw my hands over my face. "holy shit.. what's in those meds?"
