Pyrrha: ...

Pyrrha: Hey, Matt?

Matt: Hm?

Pyrrha hesitated for a moment, gathering her thoughts before continuing.

Pyrrha: Do you... believe in destiny?

Matt: 'Oh dear.'

Oh no, that damned question.

Matt: W-Why the sudden question?

Pyrrha: Oh, I'm sorry. It's just, I have never seen someone with such an... interesting personality like yours. And, I was just wondering what is your opinion on it?

Pyrrha: I-If you don't mind me asking of course!

Matt: N-Nono, it's okay I don't mind.

Leaning against the elevator wall, he embarked on an introspective explanation, his words laced with wisdom beyond his years.

Matt: Well, I'm more of a "fate" kinda guy.

Curiosity mingled with a touch of intrigue in Pyrrha's eyes, urging him to elaborate further.

Matt: To me... the concept is more like a "huge cruel and messy game of poker".

Matt: Some people are luckier than others and some might say that once the cards are drawn, the winners are decided before the game even begins.

Matt: And people like to be complacent and just roll with it thinking "Oh it's destined to happen the way it does!"

Pyrrha: Oh... I see...

Matt: But, on the other hand..

Pyrrha: ?

Matt: You can learn when to fold, when to bet, how to read your opponents, and make things play out how you want 'em to.

Confusion flickered across Pyrrha's face, prompting him to explain further.

Matt: Because if you define 'fate' as a set of events 'pre-written' by a higher being, then you'll also have to define 'fate' as a poorly written script made by someone who is just as clueless as the creatures They're writing the script for.

Matt: A script, you DEFINITELY have the potential to go against. It is a very weak script. And whether or not someone is 'fated/destined to do something' really stems from whether you perceive that 'something' as bad or not.

Matt: There is no objective fate. The script was made by a subjective mind.

Pyrrha absorbed his words, her expression a mix of surprise and contemplation.

Pyrrha: I-I see.

Pyrrha: 'Wow, I never thought there'd be someone who believes that they can overcome their own destiny.'

Pyrrha: 'He is... certainly an amazing fellow.'

Matt: But, does it really matter though?

Pyrrha looked at him, curiosity evident in her eyes.

Pyrrha: Huh? Why do you think that?

Matt: Cause, in the end, we'll still live our lives however we live them. It depends on whether or not you want to live them.

Matt: After all, fate or destiny is all up to a person's life. Whatever happens at the past or present no matter what, it will always affect their future in some way. And it's only up to us if we want that future to be a good one.

Pyrrha fell silent for a moment, taking in Matt's words and contemplating their meaning.

Matt: Does that answer satisfy you?
