"Marcel." Nik responds.

"Must be a hundred years since that nasty business with your papa." Marcel says.

"Has it been that long?" Nik questions rhetorically.

Nik and Marcel slowly walk toward each other, I follow, seeing as my hand was still in Nik's.

"The way I recall it, he ran you outta town. Left a trail of dead vampires in his wake." Marcel says.

"And yet how fortunate you managed to survive. My father, I'm afraid, I recently incinerated to dust." Nik states.

Nik's aggressive tone seems to alert Marcel's companions to stand and ready themselves for a confrontation.

I grip Nik's hand a bit tighter in fear. He squeezes back to reassure me.

"Well, if I'd known you were coming back in town, if I had a heads-up--" Marcel starts.

"What, Marcel? What would you have done?" Nik cuts him off.

"I'd have thrown you a damn parade." Marcel states as his face breaks out into a large dazzling smile.

I relax slightly as Nik drop my hand and gives Marcel a friendly hug.

"You're smile is very pretty." I compliment, spouting out the first thing I thought of due to my nervousness.

"Why thank you sweetheart. Who might this young lady be?" Marcel takes my hand, placing a kiss on the back of it.

"This is Ivy. My fiancée." Nik answers, sending a tiny glare to Marcel.

"Are you serious?" Marcel questions with a look of shock.

"Deadly." Nik smirks.

I grin and hold up my left hand to show off my ring.

"Wait, you gave up looking for your soulmate? You never used to shut up about it." Marcel questions again with confusion.

"I don't have to look anymore. I found her." Nik says proudly.

"No way! Congratulations man." Marcel hugs Nik again with excitement.

I smile at their friendly conversation.

"And my deepest condolences to you, Ivy. I can't imagine being stuck with this guy." Marcel jokes.

"Thank you. It is a tough situation." I say with mock sadness.

I look around to see all of Marcel's friends looking at Nik with confusion.

Marcel seems to notice as well, so he speaks.

"Oh right, Niklaus Mikaelson everybody. My mentor, my savior, my sire." Marcel introduces before turning to us. "Let's get you a drink."

———

Marcel had led us to a quiet little table in the back.

I was enjoying the Shirley temple I asked Nik to order me.

Don't judge. Those things are delicious.

"It is good to see you." Marcel says to Nik, breaking the comfortable silence that blanketed the room.

"It's good to be home. Although please tell me the current state of Bourbon Street is not your doing." Nik responds.

"Something's gotta draw in the out-of-towners, otherwise we'd all go hungry." Marcel chuckles.

Nik peers over at one of the guys flanking the doorway of the room. "I see your friends are daywalkers."

"Yeah, yeah, I shared the secret of your daylight ring with a few buddies. Just the inner circle, though-- the family." Marcel replies.
