Chapter 17: The Talk

Miyano touched his swollen lips. He bit Sasaki, a pure alpha, and his mate let him! He was pretty sure that was rare. The norm was the alpha bit the omega first to stake claim, a temporary mating claim until it happened for real. Until they could consummate it and bite each other together...

His inner omega reared its head at that, and Miyano quickly thought about something else. Luckily, the distraction came in the form of Sasaki, who emerged looking chipper than ever. Well, Miyano supposed he would feel the same way if their roles were reversed...

"Sasaki, how are you feeling?"

His alpha sat in front of him on the bed as he regarded him with light eyes and a sunny expression. "Really, really good! Is it suppose to feel like this? What'd you call it again? A claim?"

"Yes, a claiming bite. It's a temporary mating mark. A sort of old, traditional way of keeping someone unmated safe. When it happens, pleasure takes over and, well, you know..." Miyano flushed as he remembered the all-consuming passion that took over. He didn't know it was going to be so powerful!

"Wait, it's temporary?" Sasaki's face fell at this.

"Yes, it'll most likely fade in a few months..." Then it dawned on Miyano. Why was he having to explain it so much? "Sasaki... you knew what I was doing the whole time, right?"

His mate blinked rapidly as he thought, and Miyano could feel his nerves stirring tightly in his gut. "Um, well, not really. I just followed my instincts and submitted to you. My inner alpha just kind of took over."

All the color drained from Miyano's face, and the ever present warmth was replaced by sheer cold. "You didn't know?" He whispered, barely able to find his voice.

"Miyano?"

Of course Sasaki wouldn't have known! He was surprisingly one of the most innocent people he knew when it came to all this stuff. His parents hadn't taught him this stuff growing up, and Sasaki hadn't cared enough to ask about it before becoming pack! Miyano clutched at his hair as his breathing deepened and he felt sick to his stomach.

"Hey, what's wrong?" And Sasaki was right before him, looking at him with worry in those beautiful sunset eyes.

He didn't deserve it. Miyano knew he didn't deserve him. Maybe those girls were right about me after all. "I'm sorry. I took advantage of you." The words burned him with disgust. How could he have done something so horrible to the one he loved more than anyone else?

"What are you talking about? I wanted this." Sasaki reached out and touched his arm.

"But you didn't know what 'it' was! Even if my stupid inner omega was taking over, I still knew what biting you would mean! I should have asked you if you knew for sure before giving in. I'm awful, and I'm so sorry." Tears betrayed him, and he swallowed against the sick feeling he had.

"You're not. Don't ever say that, please Yoshikazu." Sasaki spoke in a firm tone, and Miyano looked up at him. That gaze was serious, but so full of love. "I know I'm still ignorant on a lot of things, but with you I don't care what it is we do. I love you so much and want to be with you forever. Even though I didn't know what I was getting into, I still want it if it's with you. I'll always want that." He started wiping away the tears that wanted to fall, and his touch melted the cold that gripped him. "So please don't think like this about yourself. You're so kind and caring and earnest."

Miyano's lip wobbled, and then he was pressing his face into Sasaki's chest. He cried there for a few minutes, feeling the love surge through their emotional link, and it soothed him and the knot in his stomach dissolved away.
