Shadows at the Gates

"Are you fucking joking?" Vax retorted.

"I do not joke. I advise you to sit tight and wait for the sovereign's inquiry," he said as he and his guard began leaving their dining area.

"And what, we're supposed to sit here?" Grog asked.

"You have the run of your keep. I'm sure you find something to entertain yourself," he said with a smirk as shut the door.

As time passed on, they all stood in awkward silence. Scanlan was studying Delilah's necromancy book while Percy was studying maps. Grog was over the corner lifting a makeshift bar and weights, grunting as he lifted some filled buckets. Vax kept looking over at Athena who still had some slight bruising around her neck. The healing potions they had available in the keep were able to heal her back all the way but not the supernatural grip of a vampire. She reached up to touch it, but flinch from the soreness of the wound. He was going to kill Sylas if Percy didn't do it himself.

That is if he didn't turn into a vampire himself. But at this point, that might actually help them. But then he would also be a blood-sucking vampire. That scared him more.

"Getting there...Good...Slow," Grog continued grunting.

"Grog!" Percy yelled annoyed at the sounds Grog was making.

"What?" He asked pausing his rep.

"I know we have a lot to talk about," Vax interrupted, "But I'm not turning into a vampire, am I?" He asked worriedly, pointing at his neck with the two puncture wounds still visible. He thought about it and he really didn't want to turn into one. His sister motioned towards the window where a clear reflection of Vax was still present with everyone else in the room.

"I withdraw the question."

"So what are we waiting for? Let's fuck up these guards and bust out of here!" Grog shouted while raising the barrels above his head.

"Oh? So you'd like to fugitives of the crown wanted in every corner of Tal'Dorei?" Vax sarcastically asked.

"If Uriel is under a charm, then maybe Pike has a spell that can cure him?" Keyleth turned to ask Pike. However, Pike had been acting differently since the fight with Briarwoods. She was off in a corner of the room away from everyone else.

"Umm Pike? Where'd you go?" Keyleth asked once again.

"Oh...um...I-I don't know. W-What she said," Pike responded back. She was clearly not focused on them or the conversation they were having. The battle rattled her up a bit and she took a heavy strike from Delilah.

"Screw all that," Scanlan interjected, "We should focus on this book. I mean look at it: dead bodies, wolves. It's some kind of fucked-up evil diary. Ooh, maybe it has evidence that can clear our name." Vax took a seat at the table, pulling the book towards him to look at what Scanlan was talking about.

"Oh, really?," he asked, clearing his throat," You think you can actually read this thing?"

"Well, yeah, I mean, I-I only just started translating it. And Delilah's handwriting is, like, the worst but..."

"Uh-huh. So what does it say?"

"Oh. Uh, it says "Pyramid," "spirits of the dead," and right here in tiny letters it says, 'Uh, fսck you, Vax.'" Scanlan said holding up a middle finger toward him.

"Oh, lovely. Care to translate this?" Vax retaliated with both his middle fingers, promoting Scanlan to both of his up as they had some sort of mini battle of whose flip-off was better.

"Can you two stop?" Pike cried out. It was a bit surprising to them but it worked. Vex had enough of beating around the bush with Percy so she grabbed the map from under him.
