eleven continued to grunt in pain as max and I aided her out of the mall, towards nancy's car.

"el, you're bleeding." max noticed.

"are you okay?" I inquired as we eventually reached the vehicle.

"yeah." she replied before max opened the trunk door and I began to load el inside. max took a seat in the second row as I hopped into the trunk with el and closed the door. nancy twisted the car keys to turn the engine on, the engine began to sputter but it didn't roar to life afterwards. so she tried again.

"what's wrong?" jonathan quizzed from the passenger seat.

"I don't.." nancy twisted the keys again, "-I don't know." she was now repetitively turning the keys with still no luck, "you can't be serious! come on!" she groaned.

"didn't your mum just buy this car?" lucas questioned from his second row seat, next to max.

"yes, I'm sure it's fine." nancy responded impatiently.

"-did you leave the lights on?" will asked.

"-no." nancy said sternly.

"do we have gas?" lucas then asked.

"-yes!" nancy snapped, she had now lost her patience. she twisted the keys again, for a long period of time, "COME ON!" she yelled at the car.

"whoa, whoa, whoa. just stop, okay?" jonathan reached his arm out to stop her from burning the engine out, "pop the hood." he clambered out of the car before opening up the hood. he peered inside and his forehead immediately creased in confusion.

"what the hell?" he muttered, nancy now standing beside him, "the ignition cable's gone." suddenly, the loud rev of another car engine stole our attention. we all looked over to find billy hargrove's car, it's bright headlights blinding us from afar. they almost looked like the piercing eyes of a monster you would find in a cupboard, or under your bed, staring at us from a distance. but the car's gleaming eyes weren't the only pair watching us, billy's own menacing eyes were fixated upon nancy's paralysed car. an evil smirk spread upon his sly face as he revved the engine even more, looks of pure fear painted themselves across the party's faces as our breathing hitched and increased.

"BACK IN THE MALL!" nancy thudding her fist on the car window caused us all to gasp and spring into action. we all quickly flooded out of the car, max returning to el's other side again.
before we all rushed back into starcourt.

"scoops troop, I repeat, do you copy?" mike recalled into his walkie for what would be the millionth time by now probably, "we're trapped in the mall and in need of emergency transportation. scoops troop, do you copy-"

lucas pulled back on his slingshot, practising on how to aim and shoot as nancy sorted out her gun.

"you're gonna kill him, aren't you?" max fretted to nancy.

"this is just a precaution, okay?" nancy assured.

"and not just against billy." will added, speaking to max, "if he knows we're here, so does the mindflayer."

nancy's eyes cautiously searched the mall until they fell upon the display car that el totally destroyed.

"no chance that thing'll drive, right?" nancy said, almost sarcastically.

"-we don't need it to drive." jonathan announced, "we just need the ignition cable."

everyone strained and their faces scrunched as they tried to push the car upright. but the car was barely budging, until el wondered over.

"let me try." she announced.

"oh yeah, that's actually a good idea." I said as I walked over to her, "how'd I not think of that." I then began to lift my arm out but el stopped me and gently pulled my arm down.

"y/n, let me try." she said strongly.

"but el, you're hurt, I don't want you hurting anymore." I told her as my gaze softened whilst I thoughtfully looked into her glistening, brown eyes.

"just- just let me try, okay?" she soothed before tenderly pecking my cheek, it caused a deep red blush to flare upon my cheeks.

we all took a few steps back, away from the vehicle and watched as el raised her arm up, in attempt to use her powers.

the metal made buckling and squeaking noises as el focused. she started to pant and gasp, but the car hardly moved at all. a short gasp left her lips in one last hope in moving the car, but still unfortunately, no luck.

mike shoved my back lightly, causing me to stumble forwards as el stepped back, feeling all guilty, as if she had let everyone down.

I lifted my arm up and concentrated on the car, and within three seconds, the car was back up on its feet, or well, wheels.

jonathan patted my shoulder as he made his way over to the trunk of the vehicle.

"how do we get it open?-" nancy began but was cut off by the trunk bursting open, just because I flicked my head upwards slightly, "thanks." she praised before jonathan dug his hands into the trunk.

"what's she doing?" max asked with furrowed eyebrows as she curiously watched eleven.

"I dunno, n/n?" mike lazily replied as he tapped my shoulder. I spun around and followed their gaze to discover that they were looking at el. and she was rummaging through a bin, chucking out all of the trash.

"um, being a litterbug?" I awkwardly tried, both max and mike gave me a confused look before storming off to their own lovers.

I watched from afar as el placed a coke can on the ledge of one of the pillars. she looked down at the cylinder object before posing her head into the icon powers position. I expected the can to crush any second, but it surprisingly didn't and el seemed so disappointed at this.

"hey el?" I called out whilst lightly jogging my way over, "you okay, hun?"

el turned to look at me, nervously swallowing a lump in her throat. suddenly, a loud and repetitive thudding noise came from above. will's hand shot up to his neck, that was already covered in goosebumps. with concerned eyes, we all looked up at the mall's ceiling. the pounding footsteps grew louder and louder until the sound of glass cracking was added to the mix.

"y/n, I-" el began as she slipped her hand into mine, we both gripped onto eachother's sweaty palms.

"NANCY!" mike's voice echoed from somewhere in the mall. the sound of a creature snarling could be heard from above, as all of our eyes remained fixed on the glass roof.

"holy shit, come on!" I shouted as both el and I turned on our heels and ran like the wind, to the furthest corner of the mall, along with the others.

the glass ceiling abruptly collapsed and shattered into a million and one tiny shards. followed by an absolutely ginormous monster thudding to the floor, causing a cloud of dust to go everywhere. the monster looked around, shrieking, before letting out one deafening, bone-chilling roar, spraying saliva all over the place.
