our heads shot up at the crashing sound of the boys tumbling down the stairs in a heap.

"you talk to her yet n/n?.. about her superpowers?" dustin asked but quietened his tone at the last bit, I just rolled my eyes and shared a sassy glance with el, she giggled in response.

"guys you need to understand that she's still a human with human feelings," I calmly reminded them as I watched them sway on the spot in excitement.

"yes, yes now please help us find our friend, will," begged lucas.

"friend?" el repeated the unfamiliar word.

"yeah, friend.. will?" lucas said.

"what is.. friend?.." asked el innocently.

"is she serious?!" questioned lucas.

"come on man, she obviously doesn't know!" mike complained at his remarks.

"a friend is someone you'd do anything for," explained mike from his standing position, in between dustin and lucas.

"you lend them cool stuff like comic books and trading cards," added dustin.

"and they never break a promise," I informed, knowing she understood the meaning of the word 'promise.'

"especially when there's spit." lucas spoke.

"spit?" pondered el.

"a spit's where it means.." lucas spat into the palm of his hand, "you never break your word." his hand then collided with dustin's making a loud squelching noise and me and el gagged a little, "it's a bond." he then shook a very disgusted dustin's hand.

"that's super important because friends.. they tell eachother things.." mike spoke, "things that parents don't know."

I was observing the pages of the current comic I was reading until, in the distance I saw el take a seat at the dnd table so I put the comic down and we all slowly approached the table.

"what's the weirdo doing?" asked lucas.

"she's not a weirdo!" I snapped back quietly as I took a seat beside el.

"el?" I called out to her as her eyes were closed and concentration was painted onto her face. a few seconds later, her eyes opened and she picked up will's dnd figure.

"will." she simply said whilst staring at the small object.

"superpowers.." breathed dustin, completely amazed.

"did you seem him.. on mirkwood?" I asked calmly, "do you know where he is?"

she gave me a soft look before wiping all the figures off the table and they hit the floor with a clattering noise. she then proceeded to lift the board and flip it upside down so only the bottom side, which was a plain black in colour was visible. after, she picked up will's figure and slammed it onto the board before pulling her hand away.

"I don't understand.." mike spoke.

"hiding." el replied.

"will is hiding?" mike and I asked in unison and el nodded in response.

"f-from the bad men?" I stammered but this time el shook her head, "then from who?.."

she then reached over and placed the demogorgon figure onto the board, my heart skipped a beat as my eyes widened in fear.

"he's hiding from the-" I began but was cut off by el.

"demogorgon." el finished for me.

the others had now all gone home and here I was again, just laying in bed lost in a reverie. tears flowed down my cheeks but this time I wasn't angry like last night, I was just... sad.

so to take my mind off things, I decided to head down to the kitchen and get a glass of water.

I trod lightly as I walked down the steps but my ears pricked when I heard movement in the kitchen.

my heart-beat quickened as I flattened my back against the wall, so whoever was in the kitchen wouldn't see me. I squeezed my eyes shut and slowed my breathing, hoping that would make less noise.

"n/n?" a gentle voice called out, it coming from the kitchen.

I peeled my eyes opened and peered around the door, relief flushed through me when I saw el standing there, with a glass cup in her hands.

"what are you doing?" we both whispered to eachother at the same time.

"just getting a glass of water." we answered eachother in unison, again.

"double jinx!" I quietly exclaimed, knowing that's where I would stump el.

"huh?" she pondered.

"oh, it's just some stupid thing where if you say something at the same time as someone else you say jinx." I explained whilst grabbing a cup from the cupboard.

"oh," was all el could say back, but to my surprise that wasn't the only thing she said, "why are you crying?.."

"hm?" I turned to her, cup in hand before remembering I had been crying earlier, "oh yeah.. just worried about will I guess." before wiping the tear stains away.

"it's okay to cry." she said with a reassuring smile which caused me to chuckle weakly as more tears escaped my eyes.

"hug." she blankly said whilst holding out her arms, I stopped wiping my eyes before walking into her open arms. she wrapped her arms around my torso, and a warm fuzzy feeling flushed over me, I held onto el even tighter as more tears fell and dampened el's shoulder.

"it's okay.." she soothed, but I was facing such a strange feeling. I felt protected and loved, truly loved. don't get me wrong, I love the wheelers and I know they'd do anything to protect me, well maybe not as much ted but I know that they care for me. but right here, right now with el, I just wanted to stick with her forever and never let go but that was when I felt el breaking away.

she looked me in the eye, her chocolate doe-like eyes shimmering in the kitchen's light.

"everything will be okay." she spoke strongly, "I promise."

a weak smile tugged at my lips, which were wet with tears, as el slipped her hands from my shoulders before holding her glass to me.

"water?" she asked, unsure of how to turn the tap on.

"oh yeah, of course." I chuckled softly before filling the two cups with water and I handed one to her.

"thanks." she smiled before taking a sip, me copying her actions shortly after.

"goodnight n/n," she called out whilst walking away, back down to the basement.

"night el," I replied before heading up to my own bed.
