I sat beside Jas in Dr.Clayton's office checking in on the babies before our honeymoon.

"So we're planning on going to Turks and Caicos in a few days. I just want to make sure I'm okay to travel."Jas explained

"Okay, I'm going to need to do some blood work and another ultrasound."She told us

"Okay."Jas nodded

A nurse came in and took some blood and then Jasmine got ready for her ultrasound.

"So the last few weeks we've been monitoring baby B. He's my real concern here."The doctor said as she began the ultrasound

"It seems like his heart rate is still very low and I can see the difference in size between the two."She went on

I watched Jas' face begin to go stale. All the light left her eyes.

"I would really recommend no trips out of the country. I want to be close by at this point in your pregnancy."She said

"Why? Is something wrong?"Jas asked

"No. Well yes, but I can't say anything pressing is wrong. Baby B is doing okay. I only worry about his development. He is going to be a small baby. He may need to spend some time in the NICU once he's born."She went on

"So he'll be like a premie?"Jas asked

"Yes, that's what I'm predicting."Dr.Clay said

Jasmine sighed. I grabbed her hand and kissed it.

"Like I said that's a prediction, Jasmine. I can't be a hundred percent certain."She said

"You're the best OB/GYN in Toronto. I think you know what you're talking about."Jas sniffled

"Hey don't cry, baby."I scooted closer to her

"I'm so scared. I want him so badly. I want them both. I need them. What do I have to do to save my baby? What can I do?"She pleaded

Dr.Clay sighed and grabbed her hand.

"We're already doing everything we can. We talked about this as a possibility and I'm not saying he won't make it. He certainly can but we can't do anything to make that happen. You can't do anything more than you already are. All I can ask of you now is to save that honeymoon for later."Dr. Clay told her

The ride home was quiet. It seemed like every time we left the doctor, tensions were high.

"I think I need to go vegan. That might help."She said looking at her phone

"No. You need enough protein."I said simply

"I can still get protein."She argued

"Not enough. That'll only make things worse. Listen to the doctor not google."I told her

"I have to do something. Nothing we're doing is working."She sighed throwing her phone in the cup holder

"This car is new."I scolded

She rolled her eyes.

"I just want- I want to protect him. I promised Adonis a brother. I don't wanna disappoint him." She said

"And you won't. We will be okay."I kissed her hand

"You don't know that."She said lowly

When we got home she went up to our room quietly and slammed the door shut.

I sighed and went into the kitchen to pour a glass of cognac. I sat there for a while trying to calm down. This whole process and pregnancy has been hell and we still have four months to go. I don't know how we're going to get through this.
