A long time ago, in a galaxy far far away, the stock market crashed in Owl City.
As a result, investors panicked and moved their investments to Gravity Falls, Starting an economic boom for the town. But with the boom of investments, there was a large stock investment into an advanced multidimensional portal developed with Altean technology. Its biggest sponsors were the supermarket chain Joja Corporation, the restaurant Applebee's, and the animation studio Big Idea.
This portal ended up exploding, but before it combusted, the portal opened a prison dimension among other dimensions in Gravity Falls. In the aftermath of the explosion, a dimensional warp suddenly placed Gravity Falls right next to Owl City, Tennessee and Owatonna, Minnesota. The three cities were now neighbors and the police departments fused into one: The Owl City Department of Justice, headed by officer Nick Wilde.
