My mind goes blank I'm not happy I'm not sad Not mad Or excited Or scared Or hurt Or tired I'm not there My mind goes on vacation— Without letting me know I just lay there, Wondering why I don't feel, Why I don't care, Why I can't cry, Or scream Or smile Or laugh The walls surrounding me blur I hear a distant, "are you okay" And want to say "no" But an "I'm fine" escapes me, Filling me with regret; If I spoke, Maybe I would feel Maybe my mind would return Excited And happy And sad And angry And tired And alive
