Chapter 12

"So, how's everything going with Alek? Have you tried to innocently flirt with him?" Tink questioned as we swam opposite of each other.

I had told her about Alek being my crush for some time now since I couldn't talk about it to my best friends back home.

"No, I've been too busy..." I trailed off, looking down at the water.

"You know that's very lame of you, right? Just flirt with him already! You two are so comfortable around each other but when it comes to flirting, you act like two strangers!"

"I know, I know....but I don't know how to start...do I give him a compliment? Do I lightly touch his shoulder or something?" I sighed.

"You have had boyfriends before, what did you do with them?" Tink asked.

"Well, we did flirt but...it's different with Alek. We used to be best buddies but that faded away over the years. Now we're just friends I guess..." I sadly replied.

"Try to pick up what you two had, but this time with more flirting and stuff. You're a great girl Felicity, don't forget that." Tink explained.

I smiled and hugged her.

"Tha-" I couldn't finish my sentence since I was pulled underwater by a hand grabbing my ankle.

I let out a scream but water came into my mouth, causing my lungs to fill with the liquid. I kicked the thing that was pulling me down and it let go of me. I quickly resurfaced, spitting out water and gasping for air.

"Felicity!" A voice yelled.

Tink.

Just as I was about to swim to the shore, a hand pushed my head underwater. This time, I had time to take a deep breath. Opening my eyes, I looked straight into a pair of dark black ones. The girl stared back at me before opening her mouth to speak.

"You shouldn't be here." She spoke normally, as if we were above water.

Then, another pair of arms grabbed me under my arms and pulled me back up. I gasped for air once more before pulling myself up to the shore, coughing out more water and inhaling deeply.

"Shhh, calm down calm down." Said Tink, lightly hitting me on my back and staring at me with worry in her eyes.

"What. Was that?" I managed to choke out.

"Mermaids." Tink growled, looking at the water and walking towards it.

I was still on my hands and knees, trying to calm down. My back was to the water but I heard talking.

"Is she alright?" A gentle girls voice asked softly.

"Thanks to you, yes. Where's Amanda? Amanda!" Asked Tink, annoyance clear in her voice.

"She'll come, make sure Felicity is alright first." Said the voice.

"Felice, can you come here?" Tink asked, Felice was my nickname, as if Felicity wasn't enough already.

I stood up slightly, still wobbling on my feet before turning around. My eyes landed upon a girl. She had red hair and one yellow and one green eye. She looked around my age, maybe a little older.

I walked towards her and stood next to Tink.

"I'm terribly sorry for what Amanda did. She never tries to drown girls. This is so unlike her." Said the beautiful girl.

"Felicity, this is Ariel. A mermaid." Tink introduced us.

Ariel smiled, and a fishtail came out of the water.

"It's a pleasure to meet you." She said as we shook hands and I kneeled down slightly.

"Jade" Ariel's voice spoke up in my head as my green eyes stared into her yellow and green ones.

My eyes widened slightly as she smiled innocently. I let go off her and quickly stood up. Tink let out a deep breath.

"Tell Amanda to stay away from Felicity. Otherwise she'll have to do with me and Pan." Said Tink as she walked to our clothes.

My eyes were still fixated upon Ariel who was now staring back.

"Meet me here tonight at midnight." Ariel whispered before sinking back into the river.

I was confused, shocked and slightly terrified at the same time. She knew my name.

My real name.
