Enid has a habit of chewing on her lip a little too harshly. Wednesday takes it upon herself to change this.

(Implied Autistic Enid & Wednesday but not directly stated. Sorta just projecting my own stim onto Enid cause hehe she a werewolf, who uses a chew necklace, like a chew toy for a dog, get it?)

CW - Brief description of chewing on lip til it's raw.
-

There are an abundance of things Wednesday can't stand. Physical contact with another human being, bright vibrant colours, shrill pop songs blasting at full volume. The list could go on forever.

Recently though, something new has found itself near the top of her list. Biting. Specifically Enid biting her own lip, often until it's left raw. She's frequently chowing down on it like a dog's chew toy, but instead of squeaks from a squeaker all Wednesday hears are yelps when the girl bites too hard.

It was becoming annoying, disruptive and above all else...worrying. Though she'd rather not admit it, the sight of Enid physically harming herself, whether intential or not, sets Wednesday on edge. Her antenna is constantly up around Enid so she's ready to swoop in, steal the girl's attention and counter the biting with that obnoxiously sweet smile instead.

Today's been no different. By lunchtime Enid smelt vaguely of copper, her lips cracked with a faint cut near the right corner. The blood was dry, so she must've stopped a few classes before lunch.

"Enid." Wednesday greets before sitting down beside her.

"Howdy Roomie!" Enid beams back at Wednesday, the complete opposite of her scowl. "How was art?"

"Devastating." Wednesday begins laying out her lunch as usual, setting everything in place before daring to dig in. "We were given freedom to create whatever we so desired. I painted a wake of vultures devouring an unidentified corpse."

Enid's smile drops to a grimace, though she congratulates the girl nonetheless. "Sounds...interesting."

"It was," she lifts her cutlery before saying, "I have much more important things to tell you, though. Will you accompany me to the dormitory after we feast?"

"Y-yeah, of course!" Enid tries her damnedest to squash the grin from blossoming on her face, scared that if she does let it grow freely, Wednesday might retract her invitation.

-

"So...what did you want to tell me?" Enid prompts after several beats of silence. Wednesday seems nervous? That doesn't seem right. Maybe agitated is what Enid is seeing. Yeah, agitated is definitely her expression.

"I have bought you something." Wednesday reveals but makes no move to retrieve said 'something.' "Before I gift you it I would like a verbal contract that you will not attempt to hug me upon recieving it."

Enid chuckles, "I won't try to hug you after getting the gift, Wens."

"Good. We may proceed." Wednesday swiftly turns toward her bed. Thing scuttles out from underneath, a 'bag for life' in tow. "You may not enjoy this, but I do hope it will meet your exotic tastes."

"Oh I'm the exotic one?" Enid teases, earning a perplexed face from Wednesday.

"Yes? You're entire being is like a personified rainbow, you have an army of teddy bears behind you and the absolute stench of sweetness that radiates off you all emphasise how odd your tastes are." Wednesday states, evidently having thought of this in detail before.

"Whatever, gimme, gimme!" Enid makes grabbing motions with her hands as Wednesday takes the bag from Thing and approaches the invisible divider of their shared room.

"I," Wednesday hesitates, the bag dangerously close to Enid's grasp, "I do hope you like it, Enid."

"I'm sure I will." Enid reassures her, though deep down she's rather unsure herself. What on Earth could Wednesday have gotten her, out of no where, with no obvious debt to be paid?

Enid rifles through the bag and finds the thin fabric of a necklace. Lifting it out reveals an orange, pink and white tie dyed heart made of silicone in the middle of a black cord. The end of the cord has a breakaway clasp.

Enid turns the heart in her hands several times, relishing in the feel of the silicone on her palms. It's perfectly smooth. "This is beautiful, Wednesday. Thank you!" Enid looks back to Wednesday as she thanks her, meeting cautious eyes. "Are you okay?"

"I am, yes." Wednesday let's out a breath to calm herself, something she allows herself to do in Enid's presence now. "This necklace is for practicality. It is a chewable product, aimed for Autistic people and people with ADHD among other things." Enid glances down at the heart still twirling in her hands. "I have grown...worried about you, Enid."

"Why?" Enid asks, her bottom lip catching between her teeth.

"That is precisely why." Wednesday all but growls, pointing aggressively toward Enid's mouth. "Ever since we arrived back from the early break, you've been attacking your mouth like it's somehow a feasible threat to your safety. As much as I enjoy seeing others thrashing about in pain, I do not think it suits you. I want you to stop, so I spent the last week researching causes, affects and solutions to your new developement."

"I-"

"I found that the likely cause of this is the traumatic events last term. Even I regrettably have been plagued with issues regarding that night." Wednesday's eyes dart uncomfortably away from Enid's gaze. "You will use this heart to chew instead of your lip from now on. When you inevitably demolish the thing, I have more to give so come to me...please."

Enid remains silent, eyes glossy and full of warmth. "Wednesday," she coos finally, "you didn't have to do this."

"On the contrary, I did. Your incessant chomping was becoming quite bothersome and impacted my writing time." Wednesday lies, too good at it for her own good.

Enid clicks the clasp into place behind her neck, then positions the heart to rest in the middle of her chest. The colours match her outfit perfectly, almost like Wednesday had planned to give her it when she wore this ensemble.

"I love it, thank you." A stray tear falls silently from her eye as her cheeks sting from how wide she's smiling. "I," Enid's words catch in her throat as she swallows back a sob, "I used to do this a lot before I came to Nevermore. When I was finally away from my Mum it slowly stopped...I guess too much happened last term and brought it back. I'm sorry."

"Why are you apologising?" Wednesday moves across the threshold, surprising not only Enid and Thing, but herself too. "Do not take this as me shaming you for your self-soothing. I am aware that you were not doing this consciously, Enid. I merely wanted to bring a safe, non-painful alternative for you that will, hopefully, suffice."

Enid ducks her head to hide her wobbly chin. "Thank you." She mumbles, voice far too shaky to speak any louder.

What happens next causes Enid's breath to hitch and body to freeze in place. Wednesday Friday Addams was hugging her. A hug she initiated herself. Even after their 'verbal contract.' Enid wastes no more time and melts into the embrace, capturing Wednesday in her powerful arms.

"Despite the fact I fail to show it, I do care about you a lot, Enid."

"I know, Wednesday. I know."
