Part 4: Bound by a Secret Agreement

Start from the beginning

I nodded, initially finding the plan absurd. After all, this was real life, not a book. But fate had its ways, and reality could be harsher than we imagined. Now, I was fully prepared for the job, as long as I received the agreed-upon payment.

"Of course, I won't back out of our deal. But Shreya, it's not an easy task. Have you ever wondered about the groom?" Priya asked, raising an eyebrow.

My eyes widened, and my heart raced as I realized that amidst all the chaos, I had never even considered the main issue at hand. I shook my head, realizing I didn't care who Priya's fiance was. What mattered most to me was the amount of money I would receive—enough to cure my sister and send her to the best school in the city.

"My would-be groom is Amit Agrawal."

What?

Amit Agrawal...

I couldn't believe what I was hearing. Was it just my wild imagination, or was it real?

Amit Agrawal, one of India's famous diamond traders, hailing from a wealthy family. He held immense influence worldwide and was admired for his accomplishments in the corporate world. He was seen as a prince in many girls' fairy tales, thanks to his bravery, success, and gentlemanly nature.

I held a certain admiration and gratitude for him as well. During his visit to India last year, he donated money to several schools, including my sister's. At that time, I couldn't afford the full exam fees, and I feared she would have to drop out. But he came to our rescue and ensured she could continue her education.

However, according to Priya, Amit was nothing more than a person forced upon her by her parents. She saw his desire to possess her and believed that once they were married, she would lose her freedom forever.

If it hadn't been for Anuj, whom Priya had met and fallen in love with, she would have resigned herself to marrying Amit. Anuj had changed her perspective on life. She longed for a simple life filled with love.

"Amit and I have known each other since childhood, and even though it has been eight years since we last met, I believe I can understand him to some extent. He is proud and detests lies. If he finds out that I ran away and married someone else, he will never let you out of his sight until he punishes you. And maybe your sister will be in danger too," Priya explained, causing a line of worry to form within my heart for Anu.

Initially, I had only thought about postponing the wedding, but I hadn't considered an escape plan. If I couldn't escape, then what would happen to Anu?

"Shreya, you have a younger sister named Anu, right?" Priya asked, and I nodded, still consumed by fear for Anu's safety.

"I promise, beyond the money you'll receive, that I will protect your sister from Amit. I'll ensure she goes to the best school and even hire someone to take care of her. Do you have any ideas, Shreya?"

Anxiety coursed through my body, causing me to fidget with my fingers. But I knew this was my only option.

Priya brought out two copies of an agreement and motioned for me to read and sign them.

"If you agree, please sign these agreements. Once we both sign them, the agreement will come into effect. And if anyone violates the agreement, the violating party will have to compensate the other side three times the mentioned amount," Priya explained.

I carefully examined the agreements laid out on the table, realizing that my life would change forever afterward. Whether it would be for better or worse remained to be seen.

I looked at the agreement carefully laid out on the table, and I knew that afterwards, my life would change forever, which was for better or worse.

After reading the documents attentively, I picked up the pen Priya offered and signed both copies. Priya did the same.

"Bring one of the copies, and half of the agreed-upon amount will be deposited into your account by evening," she reminded me. I nodded, took one of the copies, and left.

As soon as I stepped out of the villa, a wave of relief washed over me. I hailed an auto-rickshaw and made my way to the hospital.
