It's Complicated

Chapter Thirteen

The phone on her desk rang and she let out a tired sigh before answering her boss, "What can I do for you Sir?"

"One Espresso and one cappuccino please." Giovanni requested.

Kanz's eyebrows shot up in surprise at how polite her boss was. This was the first time he spoke to her in such manner and she thought whoever is meeting him now is the reason.

"Ms. Rashid?" Giovanni's voice snapped her out of her thoughts as she mumbled a quick apology and went to the usual cafe across the street.

Fifteen minutes later and she was back, knocking on the door of Giovanni's office.

She walked in after she heard the 'Come in', she walked steadily towards the desk.

She placed the Espresso cup in front of Giovanni, then she turned to the guest who had his eyes glued to his phone.

Kanz didn't have the time to his features as he looked up towards her, their eyes widened as they looked at each other.

"Kanz!!" The man said, flabbergasted.

"Elias!!" Kanz exclaimed with the same astonishment.

Elias put his mobile down and stood, facing her. Then, he gave her a wide smile and extended his arms as he waited patiently.

Kanz let out a small laugh as she launched herself in his arms.

Giovanni stood there watching the intercourse in front of him with his jaw hanging low. He stared at the girl who never missed a chance to remind him to step away whenever he was too close to her because of the boundaries she had. Suddenly, he felt himself tense up the more he eyed them.

"My God! I missed you so much." Elias mumbled as they broke away. "How have you been? I'm really sorry about what happened." Elias spoke again, now switching to Arabic.

"I am good. Better now.." Kanz replied as she gave him a small smile. Then her face lit up as she asked, "How are Zach and Zoe?"

"They are the best kids ever!" He answered, then added, "And the most annoying as well."

Their conversation was cut short when Giovanni cleared his throat, Kanz glanced his way and raised her eyebrows at the intense glare he was throwing at her.

"I believe you have work to do, correct?"

Before Kanz got the chance to reply, Elias cut in, "Don't be too hard on her, we haven't met in a long time."

Again, the man turned to Kanz, "Guess who is here with me?"

Kanz stared at him questioningly as he typed something on his phone.

A minute later and the door to Giovanni's office swung open, revealing Issac, Elias' one-year younger brother.

He recovered from his shock quickly and lunged at Kanz to he hug her tightly. When they broke apart, he had a smirk on his handsome face.

"I always knew we will have a reunion again.. we are destined for each other." He said in perfect English as he gave her a wide smile.

"Oh shut up with this nonsense." Kanz muttered, rolling her eyes.

"Who thought a boring meeting between Elias and Giovanni would turn out to this. I heard you moved to Dubai but I didn't know you work here! How could you not tell me? And I thought we were close." He accused as he pushed her lightly.

Kanz switched to Arabic, "I never knew where you two stood after everything that happened."

Silence fell in the room and both siblings looked at Kanz apologetically.

"You know we would never blame you for what happened." Elias whispered, his voice almost audible and Isaac nodded his head in agreement.

Kanz shrugged, before mumbeling, "Yet, you didn't contact me so I thought..." She trailed off, not knowing what else to say.

For the second time, Giovanni found himself speechless. He sensed how the atmosphere changed and cleared his throat again causing the three of them to look his way.

"Oh hey Giovanni! I almost forgot you were here with us." Issac spoke as he shook Giovanni's hand.

"I will revert to my work." Kanz excused herself before Giovanni could kill her with the scowl he had on his face.

Without waiting for any of their replies, she walked out quickly and closed the door behind her.

Time went by quickly as Kanz busied herself with work to forget about the memories which were threatening to resurface.

The door to Giovanni's office opened with Elias and Issac walking out. Both of them stopped at Kanz's office, not saying anything for few seconds.

"How about we go out to dinner tonight? The kids would love to meet you." Elias was the one who spoke first and Kanz smiled and replied, "I would love to meet them as well."

They both nodded and walked to the elevator. Then, Isaac came back and yelled, "I will pick you up tonight! It's about time we had our first date." After that, he walked away without waiting for her answer.

Kanz laughed and yelled back, "In your dreams!"

She went back to work unaware of Giovanni who stood silently watching the scene with clenched fists.
