"Hey. May I?", I lifted my head and nodded as Jan stood in front of me.

He settled down next to me and then gently squeezed my hand "Kevin's turning half the pit lane upside down right now, looking for you. He's worried about you.".

I lowered my eyes a little "I just needed a moment to myself.".

"What's going on?", I looked over at Kevin's dad.

It was clear to see that the two of them were related. That calm, warm smile I loved about Kevin was now brushing Jan's lips as well.

"It's all so complicated.", I mumbled, he squeezed my hand a little more firmly and encouraged me to keep talking "I... Oh man shit. If Kevin and I hadn't had a fight, and if there hadn't been those rumors that he had a new girl, I never would have gotten together with Ben. I love Kevin. More than anything. But I was so stupid and accepted Ben's proposal because I had the feeling that everyone expected that from me and because I thought I would make everyone happy. And then Kevin comes back and I break up with Ben, who is also happy with it and I have the hope that Kevin and I can just be happy now, but then everyone just wants Ben back. Mick won't even talk to me even though he saw us today and...I'm just overwhelmed.".

Jan laughed, then pulled me into his arms.

"That's a lot of emotions for one person, huh?", I nodded and let myself fall a little in the embrace.

"But you want me to tell you something? The only thing that matters is that you and Kevin are happy. I know family is important and I can understand you wanting to work it out and wanting your family's reassurance, but it's more important that you guys are happy for now. Think about it. You are just now really together. So without hiding and so. And that should be your main focus. Just be happy.".

Man, those were the truest words I had ever heard.

"I mean, don't get me wrong. Family is important and of course, you should talk about it. But for now, just be happy again. Love each other. Have some good days. Enjoy life. You are still young. Worry about it when you're old.".

I laughed a little and deepened the hug before breaking away from him.

"Thank you.", I ran my hand under my eyes "Those were really wise words.".

Jan smiled at me and gently stroked a strand behind my ear.

"Kevin really loves you a lot. And I can promise you, no matter how this all turns out, our doors will always be open to you. To you alone, of course. too You're always welcome.", he laughed briefly as a thought apparently crossed his mind "You're going to marry one of my sons anyway, if they have their way, so...".

Now I started laughing too.

Jan was really deeply relaxed. I liked him already and to know that he was behind us and I was welcome with him was good.

"Come on, let's put Kevin out of his misery. He'll really go crazy if he doesn't find you right away," he pushed himself up from the bench and held out his hand to me.

I took it with a tired smile and let him pull me to my feet. Together we slowly walked back towards the pit lane.

We were on our way to the Haas Hospitality when we heard angry voices. I recognized Kevin's voice immediately and Jos' as well.

"YOU broke up the family! Her and Ben, that could have been something if she had put a little effort into it and you hadn't shown up!" yelled Jos "If you want to do her any good, you better get out of her life again, then maybe we can get things back on track with Ben."
