At Eight

Quietly I spoke
Dancing in firework smoke
At 8 alone
In a dress I’ve long outgrown

Alone I sat
On my purple yoga mat
At 10 alone
I wandered inside my home

Politely I stood
Singing my last concert of childhood
At 12 alone
I wore a dress covered in rhinestone

In blue I dressed
My teachers impressed
At 14 alone
In a uniform of loan
