Chapter 2: On my path to you

Start from the beginning

And another nickname. Seokjin wanted to throw up.

Their day ends with them bidding goodbye to the small group and Seokjin and Taehyung getting into their car, both trying to hide their sulky mood from the other. Seokjin didn't want to be petty. It was no one's fault that they spent most of their time with the others. Friends spending time with friends right? Seokjin's forehead tensed and he took a deep and quiet breath.

The tension between them wasn't just him right? He didn't notice Taehyung being flirty or staring at Hajun or anyone else, but not like he was able to look at Taehyung much anyway. Apart from those brief moments. He felt a soft flutter of goosebumps remembering Taehyung's stare. Taehyung looking like he wanted to be deep, deep inside of his eyes. Taehyung looking at lips. Taehyung dripping-

"Chanyeol seemed nice." Taehyung startled Seokjin out of his fantasies and Seokjin blushed in embarrassment at having such salacious thoughts about his friend. Seokjin looked at Taehyung driving with a slight furrow in his eyebrow and then remembered Hajun draping himself over him at every opportunity. He felt sickened again.

"Yeah he was." Seokjin looked out his window at the passing landscapes that reflected the late midday sun in small glitters.

"Hajun seemed... familiar with you. Is he a... a really good friend?" Seokjin couldn't help the dip in his voice at the question, wanting and not wanting to know how close Taehyung was to Hajun.

"He's a good colleague, but we don't hang out much outside of the office. We barely know each other." Taehyung said plainly, as if sensing Seokjin's insecurity.

The conversation painfully came to a halt once again as they drove into the town towards Seokjin's place. Seokjin was annoyed and he really didn't want his day with Taehyung to end this way when he felt something different coming from him all day.

His nerves sparked and his heart thudded with a fast beat that almost hurt were it not tempered by his determination to salvage this day, this moment, with Taehyung. Seeing the familiar streets mere minutes away from his home, Seokjin thought it was now or never.

"Would you like to go out to dinner and dancing with me tonight?" Hearing it aloud, Seokjin almost immediately regretted it, wanting Taehyung to have missed it over the music on the radio or not hearing it clearly.

For a while Seokjin thought Taehyung had not heard him because he stayed quiet, up until Taehyung pulled up onto the curb in front of his duplex. Seokjin was disappointed and maybe mortified at the thought that Taehyung had indeed heard it and refused to acknowledge it. Maybe Seokjin was completely and shamefully mistaken about the mood between them today.

Seokjin's head sagged as he heard Taehyung unload Seokjin's things from the back and then opening his door for him. He blinked several times, got out of the car and quickly made to manoeuvre his bag from Taehyung's grip. But Taehyung surprised him by putting his bag on his own shoulders and moving Seokjin towards his front door with hand pressed gently on his lower back.

Seokjin's breath stuttered as he faced Taehyung when they came to the door.

"I'd love to go out with you." Taehyung says in a deep whisper, "Seokjin."

Seokjin's skins suddenly felt tight everywhere like it shrank and squeezed every part of him, even the rush of air he inhaled hadn't done a thing to quell the squeals of 'ohmygodohmygodohmygod' in his head. He grabbed his bag of Taehyung, slightly putting him off balance with the sudden movement.

"Ok great!" Seokjin fumbled with his keys to open the door, "I'll text you the details. I'll just meet you there. Thank you for today. I had great time. I'll see you again soon. Bye!" And Seokjin closed the door on Taehyung without awaiting for his reply.
