I'm getting to show off my skills to Mr. Yukio. But secretly, I also want to make something for Rin. In the pat few days, he's showed me how to write in a special way he calls cursive. It's beautiful, and also a lost art. I wonder how he learned it, because everyone else I know can only write in the print he started me out with. I'm glad to know both, but I only use the cursive for him. It's sort of like a private language we share. Today, I'm going to produce a piece of magic so amazing it'll blow both the teacher & Rin away.
"Miss Clarity, please report to the testing room," an automated voice calls over the intercom. I stand up and enter the testing room, my feet echoing off the tile floor. The heavy metal door slams closed, and I jump.
"Clarity, you may show us how powerful your magic is for a chance at advanced courses, good luck," says Mr. Yukio from the glass box above. He stands tall in a formal black suit along with a few other men, and all have their eyes on me. I breathe to calm myself, then let the magic flow naturally. My magic is rare, and makes whatever you want it to, from the hardest diamonds to the softest silk. But if I use it too much, it drains me, and if I seriously overdo it, I could die. But today, I don't care. I only want to make something for Rin. First, I dress myself in a marvelous pale pink gown adorned with many other colors. Then I produce a wand to direct my magic. Then I sculpt. I feel my head becoming fuzzy, but I can't stop now. More crystals of all colors flow from the wand, forming a scene from my imagination. Finally, I stop, drained. I stare at my beautiful scene, and warmth fills me. Before me stands my magical creation, and I would love it to have it be reality. But I don't have the strength to. I suddenly feel hollow, and wheeze for breath, and collapse, panting. My heart isn't beating normally, but unnaturally slow. My breathing is slowing down too.
"Rin..." I gasp. I hope I didn't overdo it. Then the world goes black.🔶

🔷 I wake up to a steady beeping sound. I'm in a hospital bed, with a tube feeding some sort of clear liquid into my veins. I yank it off, disgusted at the fluid's looks. The white cot I lay in is warm and comfy, but has no character, no light. I want to use my magic to give it some life, but right now I don't have the strength to. I collapse back in bed and sigh. I hate feeling useless, because I feel it's true. Right now, I could be helping someone out, but no, I'm in a stupid hospital bed, being useless. I stare blankly up at the television that I'd attached to the ceiling. I stare at it for a moment, then my cheeks go hot. It's broadcasting my creation. It scans the scene, and I see the tall, crystal flowers surrounding the main part. There in the center is a large, multicolored butterfly, soaring high with two figures on its back. Those two figures are myself & Rin. I stare at them, so happy content &- perfect. We have no flaws and all our faces show is pure joy. I wish it was true, that we could be free together, but right now, that isn't going to happen. I begin to stand up, despite the dizziness in my head, and go for the door. Suddenly, I hear strong voices outside the door and I leap for the bed. I try to look normal as a mysterious man walks in wearing a white cloak & top hat.
"Hello," he says in a voice slow & rich as honey," I am Mephisto, an acquaintance of the former leader of project Eclipse." I blink in surprise. Did he just say what I though he said?
"What do you mean, former?" I ask, suspicious. He looks smart & conniving, like a fox. I don't trust him.
"Oh, I'm sorry to bring the news that your former master has died, peacefully of old age." He says with a sleek smile. He seemed to emphasize on peacefully a little too much.
"Oh, just a update, but you need to get a DNA sample before you exterminate the Rin demon," he says casually, leaning back in his chair as if that's a normal thing. Well, I don't know him, maybe killing is an average day.
"DNA?" I ask, wondering why they would want this.
"Yes DNA, such as a skin sample, but what we'd prefer is a blood sample." He says still seeming unconcerned.
"Oh, there's also a friend here to see you." He steps out the door, and once it closes, it seems as if he were never here. Then the door reopens, anda familiar head pops in.
