Starting Over

She was completely stunned. Could she trust her very own eyes? In front of her was the man she'd been searching for, lying on the medical bed in the center of the Garrison tent. Her breathing hitched and her feet froze. When the spacecraft crashed and she decided to check it out, she never thought she'd actually find him. But she did. She found her brother. Shiro. The brother she lost a year ago. The person she thought she'd never see again.

Her hazmat suit covered her face and hid her identity, but she'd have to be careful not to speak. One word and the others would know who she was instantly. They were her teachers after all. Training to be a med tech turned out to be worth it. It gave her the ability to follow orders silently and blend in.

Shiro was strapped down onto the table by three thick leather straps across his body. He was thrashing around when two of the med techs left the room. She wondered if this would get her caught, staying with the three higher ranking medical officers, but the chaos kept her safe.

He was struggling against the straps, shouting as Commander Iverson walked in. "Hey! What are you doing?"

Iverson slowly made his way to the tied up man. "Calm down, Shiro. We just need to keep you quarantined until we run some tests."

"You have to listen to me! They destroy worlds! Aliens are coming!" Shiro fought to get out as she filled several syringes with enough ccs to make a grown man fall asleep within seconds. She had a plan, but she had to wait for Iverson to leave.

"Do you know how long you've been gone?"

Shiro panicked, darting his head back and forth trying to find a way out. "I don't know. Months? Years? Look, there's no time. Aliens are coming here for a weapon. They're probably on their way. They'll destroy us. We have to find Voltron."

She paused at his words. What did he get himself into? Aliens, weapons, he even lost an arm out there! She knew the only way for him to be safe was for her to take him away from here. If the Garrison wasn't going to let him talk, she wasn't going to let them have him.

One of the men in a hazmat suit pointed to what used to be Shiro's arm. "Sir, take a look at this. It appears his arm has been replaced with a cyborg prosthetic."

"Put him under until we know what that thing can do." On Iverson's orders one of the men in a hazmat suit walked beside her and grabbed one of the syringes she filled. Not a part of the plan. Her heart started to race. It was going to be a lot more difficult to carry him out of there than walking out with him.

"Don't put me under! No! There's no time!" Shiro shouted as the man injected the serum into his arm and Iverson left the room.

The guy then turned to her, "Get a blood sample. Three vials."

She nodded and worked her way over to the supplies. In order to get all the med techs asleep to help her escape, she'd have to act fast. She could wait until all the tests were complete and they left for the night, but that could take hours. Time she didn't have if she was going to keep her identity hidden. Mindlessly, she walked over to her brother and prepped his arm for blood samples.

Getting blood was an easy task, she'd done it hundreds of times while training. It was easy for her to be lost in her thoughts as she filled the vials. A loud, thunderous noise and jolt pulled her out of her head. She quickly pulled the needle from his arm as she heard shouts coming from outside the tent.

She had no clue what was happening, but the other med techs seemed unphased by what might of been an explosion. A deep breath in, a slow exhale. She needed to remain calm, but maybe the explosion could distract the guards outside, giving her the perfect opportunity to steal a car. She had to sneak into the medical supply van to get there, leaving her without an exit for two people. There was no way she could carry the sleeping guy out though.
