"Andrea hurry up, we will be late" my mother yelled from the living room. I hurriedly zipped my suitcase up and left the room with the both of them.

I got down to find a cross look on her face and immediately I knew I was in for another lecture from her.

"What took you so long child, we still have to go to the church and also I need to pick someone up from the office before we leave for the airport and since when did you become tardy Andrea?" she slightly scolded and I kept my head low and mumbled a low apology.

"This better not repeat itself, let's go" she snapped and i followed her behind as we left the house. I desperately waited for my second year in college hoping that I'll gain a little of independence but it turns out I'll always remain a kid as long as I am under her roof.

I should have gotten an apartment in the country I schooled in but she'll never let me.

Throughout the car ride I remained silent with my eyes trained on the busy road.

"What are you thinking about?" Her voice broke me out of my thoughts. I'm sure if she had the power she'll control my thoughts as well. 'I'm thinking about how to get out of your control without being affected'. I spoke to myself and forced a reassuring smile.

"It's nothing mother, I'm just thinking about school and how this semester will be" I lied and for some reasons she stopped the car.

"Andrea tell me the truth, do you have a boyfriend?" I stared at her bewildered and shook my head.

"No mother, why will you think so?" She held my arms and looked into my eyes. "Cause you changed honey, don't think I didn't notice your slight laxity, how you were always on your phone, your tardiness and sometimes you forget the table manners I thought you, I let it slide because I chose to understand you but seeing you like this is making me doubt what I chose to ignore so tell me the truth are you seeing a boy'' I almost rolled my eyes but when I thought of the consequences I resisted the urge.

"Mother, I don't have a boyfriend and if it will make you feel better I don't have a male friend" that was a lie cause my best friend is male but a little lie wouldn't hurt. I feel bad lying to her but I can't help it specially when she pushes me to do so. She's done a lot for me and the least I can do for her is be honest and not be a disgrace to her.

She smiled and cupped my cheek. "That's good to hear honey, I trust you will never let me down cause you are my perfect daughter" I faked a smile and turned to look away from her but she held me back.

"I know you feel I'm being too hard on you honey but I can't help it. I only want the best for you, I want you to be perfect just like me.

I didn't ask you not to make any male friends but before you associate with any I want to get to know him first to be sure he is fit to be in your life and that brings me to this, do you remember Mr Hunt?"
