-He does not like to speak of those days, of the blood on this hands —blood on his hands. As if it stops there, like a glove. As if he could live through this, and there could be any part of him that wasn't stained or dripping.

-It would be easy to go around and flaunt his exploits. To fish for compliments with every word. He has accomplished great things. Saved so many lives.

-But he does not. It is not his nature to seek out such attention. He is fine with his judgemental owl, and memories of love to keep him company.

-This being said, he will noy let himself be demeaned. He has studied and fought for every scrap of himself. You do not get to tell him what he is worth.

-But he's a nice person. Just grieving the loss of his husband, who was a soldier. Yeah the dude is a widower. But he is doing his best to move on. The death was not recent. His husband died in battle, a noble death.

-If you were to ask him about his life, Haru Sasaki would completely skip over his childhood and younger days —when he had yet to be be a Kobayashi — and straight to what he would call his best years.

-When he officially began working in the halls of healing. When he met his husband.

-Aoki Kobayashi was a soldier with a habit of rambling and an appreciation of Haru's genuine words.

-They're head over heels for each other in a matter of months. Haru is nearly kicked out of the halls for the amount of sappy displays of affection he preforms whenever Aoki comes by. Aoki himself is scolded for being there so much.

-But there's a fondness to the scoldings the pair receive. A slight upturn of the lips when people see the two together. Mates, they say, when seeing the love between them.

-They are not, but that does not mean their love was lesser. It does not mean Haru would have chosen anyone else —does not mean Aoki's death did not drive him to a wrath only seen when a mate loses the other.

-One bright morning laying in the fields, smiling and laughing at something he can't quite remember, he turns to Aoki and the male is sun framed and golden against the light, a god in his own right. Breathlessly, Haru asks to marry him.

-Aoki freezes, then says says:

"No! No, no, no! That's not fair!" The male scrambles to his knees and grabs something from- Haru doesn't know, his ears are ringing with the rejection, the realization that he's just quite possibly ruined the best thing in his life and his head is a suddenly a blaring mess of panic and he thinks he's going to be sick-
