"Here?"

Mason looks around the venue, analyzing the layout before answering. He shakes his head and gestures to the opposite side of the room. The two men carrying the head table heave and move the whole thing back to its original spot.

"Problem?" Mason asks them in a low and sharp voice, daring to be answered.

They gulp and shake their heads. I'm pretty sure one of them shits themselves. It's the Rey Brother charm—invoking zero bowel control in those who fear them. It's only funny when it's not you.

That's why I skip over to little boss-man and plaster  on a sweet smile. He's still watching the two men stony-faced but I know he notices me.

"Yes?" He asks, unamused.

I gesture big to the room. "Well? Is it coming together or what?"

"Are you feeling the need to be validated?"

"Considering this was my idea and the future of your company lies on it? Yes."

The side glance he casts would be shrivelling if I didn't know him so well and also know he was soft deep down.

"It's great," he deadpans. "The best work I've ever encountered."

"Don't be so sarcastic."

"Don't beg."

My nose scrunches. "Good luck finding a nice lady friend if you're gonna say that to her."

"My lady friends get the opposite instruction, rest assured."

"Ha!"

Sierra appears out of nowhere. Literally out of nowhere. She all but freaking jumps in front of us, legs apart and hands in front of her like she's going to karate chop us. I flinch in surprise. Mason rolls his eyes.

"I knew it!" She hisses. She's got crazy eyes. "You have lady friends. Admit it!"

"Sierra," comes an irritated voice. Holden walks right up to us, or right up to Sierra, hand going straight to her belly. "Don't jump around like that. Jesus."

"It's not Jesus. It's our baby girl and she's resilient. My womb is a zero gravity zone."

"For now."

"Is now later? No. It's now. That's why it's called now, Satan."

Mason and I share a look. These two might be sickeningly in love now but they were enemies for a longer time and still act like it. It's kind of cute but also kind of terrifying.

Boss-man rubs a hand over his face, giving Sierra his back in defeat. I worked for him for a year before Sierra came into his life and never knew him to give in or give up. Not until Ser. That's when I learned that anyone can find someone they're soft for. My own mind wanders to someone in particular like it's been doing all week.
