Shared POV:

Western Europe 07/15/2009

They turned in circles mirroring each other step by step. The plane's carpeted floor under their bare feet was rough and their muscles tense, ready to attack. The rules were clear. No hits to the face or any other typically disposed area, no hits that injure either the hand or cause internal bleeding inside the one taking the hit. Their fight was limited to ten minutes; the exact time they had till they reached the next waypoint. It either ended with whoever was in control at that moment or when one of them tapped out, which neither of them was planning to do.

Kate wasn't sure what came over her to propose a fight with her boss but she sure as hell wasn't going to lose it now. She had to prove to Natasha that she wasn't going to be deadweight but instead a valuable asset to the highly praised assassin. Plus she had to deal with the raging chaos inside her and nothing was better than a little hand-to-hand combat to take your mind off things. Impatiently she waited for her opponent to attack but with rising frustration, she watched as Nat simply mirrored her with no intention to make the first move.

Nat carefully watched Kate's eyes that looked back at her. She still paid attention to her opponent's movement but her eyes were more interesting. She could read the impatience inside them and how Kate searched for the spot to strike first, even though those honey eyes were behind the, in black boxing tape covered, guarding hands. With one of those hands now shooting toward her, she tilted her upper body lightly to evade the possible hit.

They started tapping on their arms and shoulders trying to get a feeling for how this match was going to go. The tapping increased in intensity and frequency until Natasha finally grabbed onto Kate's collar exposing the full length of her arm and her shoulder free for Kate to tackle.

Without thinking she quickly got hold of Nat's arm and twisted her hand up between the redhead's shoulder blades. She couldn't help but let her lips curl into a small but smug smile when she found her move wasn't immediately followed by a counter-attack. That was a lot easier than she thought.

Nat was close to Kate's chest and felt her breath against her neck and cheekbone. She could feel the light huff of confidence tingle in her ear and had to hold back a smile. She knew that Kate still had something presumptuous to add, so she waited for her comment and she didn't have to wait another second.

"You wanna try again?", Kate whispered leaning closer to her ear which as a consequence loosened her tight grip on Nat's wrist.

"No, I think I'm fine.", Nat answered in a relaxed, mocking tone and didn't wait for Kate to answer to get out of that grip.

She gracefully flipped over Kate using her as a support to push herself off of.  Perplexed, Kate crumbled underneath the unexpected weight of Nat's body and fell flat to the ground. Nat on the other side landed gracefully on two feet, with one of her legs stretched out to her side and the other one bent. She stayed in a squatted position while she watched as Kate took in a breath and turned to her side.

Kate scrunched her nose at the smell of the carpet while looking over to Nat and trying to get up on her feet as fast as possible. But before she could place both feet steadily on the ground Nat had closed the distance between them and pushed Kate back down to the floor. She sat on Kate's lower belly and pinned her hands above her head.

"I see now why you didn't want to start over.", Kate stated still a little baffled by how quickly their positions had changed, looking at Nat's face that was mere inches away. She topped the remark off with a little smile that faltered when she didn't receive the desired reaction from Nat.

"Do you get those nightmares a lot?", Nat asked more seriously than Kate enjoyed it and the rest of her arrogant attitude was washed away.

"No.", Kate said wiggling around under Nat's body to find a way out of this stupid conversation.

"It looked quite serious.", Natasha said searching Kate's eyes for signs of her actual feelings but a wall had come up that was quite opaque even to her trained senses. She held steadily against Kate's efforts to pull out.

"Well, it wasn't. I'm just nervous that's it. No big deal.", she tried to feel through her body while stalling to find a way out, going through every move she could remember in her mind. "I had those before other missions, too. It's nothing new.", she wanted to continue but had finally figured out what she was going to do.

"Don't lie to me, Davis. I know that you're not telling me the truth. You can't-", Nat confronted her but was interrupted when she was lifted off the ground rolling off to the side.

Kate had jerkily pushed her hips off the ground, wrapped her legs around one of her falling opponent's legs, and held onto it tightly. Nat had been surprised by the sudden movement but was still quick enough to make sure she had pulled back a little thereby creating a bit of space between them that should prove helpful later.

"It's none of your business, Romanoff. I had a bad dream and that's it.", Kate argued still annoyed that Natasha was able to see through her so easily. She waited for the spy to continue to argue.

The answer came in a non-verbal but very expressive way. Nat pushed her free foot in between the space of her calf and Kate's thigh then pushed her away. Without missing a beat she used her now free legs to wrap them around Kate's torso and wrap her arms around her neck from behind. Pushing herself into the ground and Kate into her, she had her under control now. There was no way to escape. No space for a lie.

"If it wasn't a big deal then why'd you call for your Mama?", Nat asked. Kate heard the underlying tone of sardonicism that made her livid within seconds. Even though she knew there was no way out she twisted and turned in Natasha's grip.

"Why the fuck do you care. It is none of your business. So piss off.", she shouted at the woman in control.

"I can not let you go out there if you're unstable. And you looked like a lot of things when you woke up but stable isn't one of them. So tell me what the hell is going on with you?!", Nat demanded pulling her arm tighter around Kate's neck.

"Do not call me unstable and leave my mother out of this!", Kate shouted at the woman behind her, who realized that she must've hit a trigger point when she felt the pointy end of an elbow land between her ribs. The spy held her breath and didn't loosen her gib one bit even when that elbow hit the same spot too often to count.

Kate couldn't bear this conversation any longer. She hit the spot yet again but her arms and head had become heavier every moment and so, she stopped. Defeated she let her hand sink towards the carpet and tapped it twice.

Immediately the assassin let go of her and Kate got off her without looking back.

"Excuse me.", she said not without her voice cracking in the end. She walked away and left Nat behind with a nagging sense of guilt.
