i'd like to say that this is inspired by taylor swift's "you're on your own, kid" on her new album midnights, which just came out yesterday! that's one of my favorite tracks on the album, so yEaH-
this is about the "normalcy" of 2022, and how despite all that, nothing was ever the same since the pandemic. it's the truth, and you know it.
its a pretty simple song, but nevertheless, i still hope you'll like it! ❤❤
p.s: i haven't started in person school yet, as this song intends i did. this is more like a 'what if' 3 am thought yk.
1ST VERSE:
Heading out south today
My first day of High School
And it rained
I tried to play it cool
But like usual
Normalcy delayed
CHORUS:
That's when I knew
Nothing was ever the same
2ND VERSE:
Crowded hallways
I'm not used to this
I've been caged for two years
In what feels like the basement
Lockdown; I can't erase it
New times, guess I'll embrace it
What else can I do? . . .
CHORUS:
Guess I'm to blame
That's when I knew
Nothing was ever the same
BRIDGE:
So many people
So many rooms
And there's an outside too
With a view
But is there a hook?
Is this the truth?
Or is this the end of the book?
My coming of age never came
I'm numb, and hold some teenage rage
It's impossible to stay
When it can all be taken away
CHORUS/OUTRO:
And that's when I knew
Nothing was ever the same . . .
