I heard Mask's belly growl, and looked down to him.
He was embarrassed, his cheeks looking a little rosy and a nervous smile on his face.
"I found some food...If you want it..." Tetra mumbled.
"No, thank you!" Mask declined politely.
"No, really. I was saying that so you could eat. I don't need food. Sure, it's one thing I haven't slept in a day, but I'm not hungry. I had an apple for lunch today. Eat, here." Tetra walked over to him and handed him what appeared to be watermelon.
"Thank you." Mask said, taking it.
We stopped so he could eat and rest.
Before Mask shoved pretty much the whole slice in his mouth, it watered like a dog staring at a steak.
"Come on, Mask. Eat." I told him.
Mask ate so quickly, I barely even had time to think before it was gone.
"You ate that really fast." Tetra smiled at him, "I think you broke my record, kid."
Mask licked his lips and then his fingers as he hopped up to his feet, now seemingly filled with energy and food, ready to get back to walking.
I couldn't help but smile at his energy.
"Hey, but if Wind wakes up, don't tell him I gave ya that. He'd be upset with me." Tetra told Mask.
I appreciate Tetra still used her energy, despite what she felt like right now, to try and make Mask smile.
That's something that's really cool about some people. They just try and make people smile, no matter how sad or angry they are.
But...at the same time... it's really sad. Most of the time, people who're like that don't take enough time to care for themselves.
And the fact that she said 'If Wind wakes up,' instead of 'When Wind wakes up,' just shows how much she believes she's killed her own partner.
Yet, by using the word if, it still shows she hopes Wind wakes up.
We continued the walk back, but Tetra's legs seemed to be giving out on her more and more often every minute.
From once every ten minutes, to once every five, and to once every minute.
Mask offered to carry her, but Tetra laughed and told him she was fine.
Then I offered to carry her, thinking she thought Mask couldn't carry her, but she still declined it and pressed on.
We strayed closer to the walls to she could hold onto them to maybe help a little.
It seemed to be a bit better.
We still took frequent breaks to let her rest, but every time we requested or suggested she took a break and stopped, the thing she said each time was something along the lines of, 'No. I'm all good. I can keep going.'
And keep in mind, as she says that, she's wincing each time she takes a step.
"Tetra, you really need to take a little break." I told her.
"N-Nah. I'm fine." She pretended to laugh, glancing behind her, paranoid something's going to attack again.
"Tetra, take a break."
"No."
"Sit down on the ground. Right now."
"No!"
I sighed at her stubbornness, then figured the only way I'd get her to possibly rest was if I forced her to.
