Introduction - Pt. Whatever at This Point

Start from the beginning

"But-But my name's Link, too!"

"Then what're you gonna call me?"

"I don't know. You seem to have lots of masks. Why don't I call you Mask?"

"Mask... Okay. I don't have a problem with that."

"Are you hungry?"

"Starving! I haven't eaten in days!"

"Do you want to get something to eat?"

"Yeah! Yeah! Yeah! Where is it? In the tress? I can climb!"

"No, it's in the castle walls."

Mask stopped and looked sad.

"I don't want to go in the castle walls..."

"Why?" I asked him.

"...Because I'm scared."

"Why're you scared, buddy?"

"I'm scared I'll get caught and thrown back out away from you."

"You won't get thrown out as long as you're with me!"

Mask walked over to me.

I noticed, as he did, that he was slightly limping, like his left side was hurt.

"Are you okay? You're limping." I asked.

"What? I'm not limping." Mask dragged his left leg along the grass.

"I can't tell if that's sarcasm or you're just trying to get me to believe you're fine." I said, "But you're certainly not fine."

He tried to put pressure on his left leg, then realized his limp was too bad to do that and fell.

"Are you okay?" I asked, holding my hand out to him.

"I'm- Yeah. I'm fine." He said, not taking my hand.

He got up and grabbed a stick to use as a third leg.

"Do you want to hold onto me to walk? You seem like you're having a bit of trouble." I gave the offer of what I thought was easiest.

He didn't seem to care, ignoring my offer entirely, to the point I thought he hadn't heard.

I just let it go, though. He was good at listening.

He had heard my footsteps after they stopped. He heard my breathing, I'm pretty sure.

Every little sound, the wind, a leaf snapping off a branch, leaves I was stepping on... They all made him jump, at least a little bit.

Speaking of the wind, it grew cold and strong very quickly just now.

So quickly that I believe Farore's telling us to get inside for the night.

I heard a scream from far off, almost the other side of the field.

We had troops patrolling night and day, but it didn't really sound like a man's scream. It sounded lien a boy's scream.

I looked down at Mask.

I would hate to leave him here...all alone...But what am I going to do?

Mask seemed scared, looking up at me with widened eyes and small pupils.

"It's okay. Do you want to go see what happened?" I asked him.

He nodded.

"Jump on my back, bud." I crouched down in front of him, and he quickly jumped on my back.

I ran towards the noise before I could even begin to forget where it had come from.

When we arrived at the southeastern corner of Hyrule Field, we saw a boy and a girl.
