The next morning I decided to wake up early, aunt zuzu had packed all the things I'll need for this trip, my dad still doesn't know what's happening. I think Khoza told him that I'm supposed to go back after 3 months, I heard them talking over the phone the other day and dad wasn't really happy about it.
I check the time it's around 6:30, Qaphelani said he'll be here at 9:00. I take my phone I check for any new messages, one from Khetha, one from Qaphelani and the rest are just my friends not really important. I put my phone on the side, I wear my slippers heading to the bathroom, the moment I stepped I to the shower I heard a whistle and this time around, I could feel the message behind it but I decide to ignore it, I take a long shower. I go to my room and the whistle was still going, I got used to them Khona trained me well, I learnt to listen to them and I knew exactly what they want
I put my white t shirt with ripped baggy jeans and my white sneakers, I take ibhayi lami I put it on my shoulder
I palm clap twice
"mathonga ami ngivekeleni ngithembe nina" (my ancestors protect me)
I take my bag, I go downstairs, Qaphelani was 10 minutes away. I sit quietly going through my phone, debating with myself if I should call Khetha or not. Before I knew it Qaphelani was outside, I take water in the fridge and I go to the car.
"my brother" I say smiling
"you good?" Qaphelani smiles back
"I'm good how are you doing?" Me
"I'm doing alright, I wanna put petrol at the petrol station, do you mind?" Qaphelani
"oh no I don't,I also wanna buy snacks" Me
He drives off, we get to Nandi drive and I jump off to buy some munchies
"Nkosazana"
I turn around
"Khetha?!" I almost fainted
"What are you doing here?" Me
"what are you doing here?" Khetha
"I told you, I'm going somewhere, are you fucken stalking me now?" Me
I was panicking, he was going to ask alot of questions that I wasn't planning to answer
"what do you mean I'm stalking you?" Khetha
"what brings you here then?" Me going to the till
"this is a fucken garage, what do you mean what brings me here?" Khetha
"why are you shouting?" I say pulling him to the side
"who are you going with, since you don't want to tell me where you're going?" Khetha
"just a friend" Me
"just a friend Thingo?" Khetha
"baby I need to go, I'll call you I don't want keep him waiting" Me rushing out
I left him while he was about say something, I got to the car Qaphelani was sleeping
"what took you so long?" Qaphelani
"oh I bumped into an old friend" Me
"ohh I see" Qaphelani
We drove off and I saw Khetha standing outside the garage store, folding his arms looking at the car, I get a call from him, I expected it
"hello" Me
"babe what the fuck!" Khetha
"eish, can I please call you when I get there" Me
I drop the call
"trouble in paradise? " Qaphelani
"uhh...aybo no" I let out that awkward laughter, Qaphelani gives me a dead stare
"you know Thingo, you don't have to hide your relationship with Khethamahle" Qaphelani
"oh I mean..." Me
"you don't need to explain anything, tell me about him actually " Qaphelani
"aybo Qaphelani, I can't be discussing my relationships with you" Me
"come on" laughing
"well okay you know his name ke, I don't know how but it's cool, he's studying agriculture at varsity College, he plays basketball and uhm yea can't give you too many details" Me
"what about his family?" Qaphelani
"he doesn't really talk about his family, actually he doesn't talk about it nje hence he calls himself Khethamahle Sishi, he said he doesn't want anything to do with his paternal side" Me
"mmh I see, please open the chips for me" Qaphelani
The drive was sooo long this time around, i fell asleep, Qaphelani woke me up when we got there.
Mvelo and Tumi had arrived, I didn't see Lunga but I couldn't care less. I went inside the house and I greet everyone, they were actually happy to see me. This sacrifice thing must stop they're such a beautiful family during the day at night they are definitely evil. I wasn't even nervous about today, I had it all planned out.
When the clock strike 18:00 everyone gathered in the rondavel and there was Ntando sitting, he was tied up with a rope. I almost fainted I couldn't believe it, these people are so evil. Ntando is such a nice gent. I could feel my anger building up
I go to Khoza
"uhm baba can we speak outside" Me
"well it's raining outside let's go inside the house, wait let me finish up" Him
"I want to drink some water, you'll find me in the kitchen then" Me
"okay kulungile" Him
I went to the kitchen and I drank alot of water I was panicking , whistles were going on and on and on, I was a mess, I even had tears, I was pacing up and down. I take a knife, I put it down, I look at it again, whistles go on and again, I take the knife as Khoza enters the kitchen
"are you nervous mntanami?, don't be, you'll be alright" Him
"I... I... I.. It's just that I wasn't expecting Ntando to be the sacrifice" Me
"he was the chosen one unfortunately, let's go" he puts his arms around me
The moment he did that, I hesitated but ended up doing it, I stabbed him once with the knife, it came back with blood, I looked at it, our eyes met, I did it again and again and again and again and again, he was crying for help, I suddenly came back to my fucken! senses
"Thingo!!! what have I done?" Me
It was too late, there was alot of blood in the kitchen and on my t shirt, I was pacing up and down, I ran to my room and I took the t shirt off, there was a big storm outside, lightning was coming in the house, I quickly put a sweater with a long skirt, since I had pants so if they ask me why I changed it would be easy to answer. I rush to the rondavel I sit down
Qaphelani looks at me then looks down and he shake his head in disbelief, he knows, I decided not to mind him
About 10 minutes later everyone was in the rondavel and people were having small talks about the storm outside
"where's your dad Qaphelani? the time is ticking" aunt Grace
"I'll go look for him, he said he's going to the bathroom" Mvelo
"no I'll go" Qaphelani
"no it's fine, I'll go" Mvelo
"are you sure, I don't mind I'll-" Qaphelani
"ngiyabuya (I'm coming back) " Mvelo
Just like that, this family was about to go through something they never thought they will experience in their life time
