Daryl just acted like he never existed to begin with. Once Daryl got the twins away from him back in Atlanta, Shinsuke was never another asset to think about. He and Merle are the ones that found the man's body. Daryl washed his hands clean after that.

Nanami just.. didn't talk about him. Maybe it was because the man never came up. Maybe it was because he was trying to forget.

"Yeah, my old man was the same," Abraham nods, "'s why I enlisted the first chance I got."

Nanami takes a long drag of his cigarette, "I thought only chicks had daddy issues."

"Nah, man. Anyone that has daddy issues is the man himself. Ain't the kids' fault. It's all on the sperm donor that tried to be more than that."

Nanami glances to Abraham as the older man takes another swig of his liquor. Nodding Nanami takes another hit of his cigarette, stretching his neck as he blows the smoke straight up.

"Bruh," Sakiko's hand stays open, eyes following Maggie.

"Sorry," Maggie apologizes, mouth full of Sakiko's cookie.

"Just cause you're eating for two doesn't mean I need to give you special treatment," Sakiko glares.

"But, you will anyway," Maggie bops Sakiko in the nose, "You love me too much."

"Our husbands share lineage, doesn't mean I gotta like you," Sakiko pokes Maggie's arm, "Speaking of, have you told Glenn? I'm not sure how much longer I can keep it from Ry."

"Yes, I've told him. Daddy knows, too," she smiles, "We told him together. Glenn said he'll tell Ry when they get a quiet moment."

"Have you thought more about names?" Sakiko wonders, picking two cookies out from the pan and handing one to Maggie.

"If it's a girl, I have to go with Beth. She'd be over the moon to know."

"She does," Sakiko comforts, patting Maggie's leg, "She knows."

"Yeah, she does," Maggie agrees, "I'm not sure about another, though. We'll see closer to time."

Sakiko nods, taking a bite of her cookie- finally.

"Are you sure you want to stay here while the others go through with that plan?" Maggie wonders.

"Things go bad, I don't want to be frontline of a shootout with geeks. Besides, you, Carl, and Carol are staying here, too. I promised Glenn I'd have your back while he and Ry were out there."

"Still," Maggie smiles, resting her elbows on the counter as she breaks her dessert into pieces, "Daryl, Ry, and Na all out there. I thought you'd be with them."

"They're big boys," Sakiko shrugs, "Ry is gonna be with Glenn. Daryl and Na got each other. I can help hold things down around here."

"Well, I sure appreciate it," Maggie smiles, "Could really use your help to get Deanna back on her feet."

Sakiko hums, tilting her head back and forth, "I dunno. I'm not really sure what to say to someone who lost something like that. When Rick lost Lori- shit I just ran away."

"I blamed my daddy a long time after my mom," Maggie reveals, "I was just.. angry. I was just a kid. But, I had so, so much anger."

"How'd you get through it?"

"Bethy was born. And as she grew up, she wanted to be more and more like me. Even when I was off at college, dating boys, and trying to be a big girl. Even if I was mad at Annette for getting daddy to move on, she made him happy and gave us Beth. That was worth it."

"Then.." she trails off, "We lost her, too. I met Glenn and daddy took to him over time. I understood that I didn't just lose my momma. Daddy did, too. That's when I learned to be patient with his grieving. Because by then, he'd lost both of them."

"I can't imagine.." Sakiko swallows, "Losing Ry. Definitely not going through it twice."

"Me either," Maggie admits, "Glenn's a survivor. More than I ever could be. He's the one that taught me to be what I am. I just.. always followed his lead."

"Ryan annoyed me until I couldn't handle it and kissed him to make him shut up."

Maggie laughs, "That is the fastest way to shut a man up."

"I only ever had Na, Daryl, and Merle. Didn't think I'd ever trust someone else. Let alone some dude. Ry.. He got me in a moment of weakness, I guess."

"He's a good man," Maggie agrees.

"He is," Sakiko smiles, "Makes me wanna be a better person after all the shit I pulled growing up."

"I understand. I once ran over my ex's truck with a tractor."

"You fuckin' what-"

i worked super hard to get ahead in school and im officially on break until late october 🥳
