The stormy spring night was chill-inducing, and the howling wind blew through the trees, making the shadows seem alive.
A tall, imposing figure emerged from a sleek, black car and approached the group of people standing nearby. The man was clearly the boss of the gang, his bodyguards flanking him on either side.
He pointed a gun at a terrified child, his expression cold and heartless.
"The night was dark and still, the only sound the rustling of the bushes as the wind blew through the trees. The cars' headlights illuminated the kneeling child, her fragile skin marred by bruises and cuts, her body shaking in fear. She was blindfolded, her hands and feet bound, her voice barely audible as she begged for mercy.
"KILL HER!"
The tall man's voice cut through the silence like a knife, his command chilling to the bone.
"Don't kill me please I promise not to tell anyone what I saw I swear!" She cried as tears rolled down Her cheeks mixing with the blood on Her face.
He bends down and unties her aggressively also removes her blindfold.
"No need, little girl. Your oath is worthless," the man sneered,
"But I have a foolproof method that will silence you forever."
The child was shaking with fear, but she knew she had to try something. As the man raised his gun, she quickly scooped up some sand from the ground and threw it into his eyes.
While he was blinded, she mustered all her strength and kicked him in the groin, quickly running into the forest.
"Get her! Get her now!" the man roared, his voice echoing through the trees.
The bodyguards fanned out through the forest, stumbling through the underbrush, shouting and swearing as they searched for the girl. She crouched behind a tree, trembling with fear.
She felt something cold and slimy slither across her leg. It was a snake, coiling itself around her ankle.
She shuddered, but dared not move, lest she attract the attention of the men who were searching for her.
One of the men shone his flashlight at the oak tree, where the girl was hidden. "Did you hear that?" he whispered to the others.
"Ouch!" The girl whimpered, quickly pressing her hand to her mouth. She had to stay quiet, or the men would find her.
But then she felt a sharp pain in her leg. The snake had bitten her! She could feel the poison coursing through her body, numbing her limbs and clouding her vision. But perhaps this was her lucky break.
The men rushed toward the tree, intent on finding the source of the noise.
"Come out, little one," one of them called, trying to sound gentle and friendly. "Let's get this over with so we can all go home."
But as they neared the tree, a snake slithered out from behind it and lunged toward one of the men.
Basil shouted and shot His gun mistakenly three times, the bullet hit two other men, and they both lay helplessly.
It looked like One of the men was trying to save the other from being shot but they both ended up getting shot together.
"Let's go back, everyone!" . Basil ordered.
"Wha...what about Peter..and..." Kendrick one of the men asked Basil in fright pointing to the men's bodies.
"We would come back for them later, it's almost dawn let's go, Kendrick!
"Wait!" Kendrick shouted. He couldn't believe what he was seeing. The men were not dead, they couldn't just leave them behind.
"We have to help them," he pleaded with Basil.
"They're still alive. We can't just leave them to die."
But Basil shook his head. "It's too dangerous. If we stay, we'll just end up getting hurt too. We need to get out of here now."
Kendrick felt his heart sink.
"We have to go!" Basil yelled over his shoulder as he turned to run. But Kendrick's shout stopped him in his tracks.
"They're not dead, Basil! You can't just leave them like this!" Kendrick's voice was full of desperation.
Basil hesitated, torn between his desire to flee and his sense of duty to the injured men.
Basil turns and shoots the men.
Basil's hands were shaking as he held on to Kendrick's shirt. He could feel the adrenaline coursing through his body, making his heart pound and his breath come in quick gasps. He was furious - with Kendrick, with the men he had just killed, with the situation they were in. He couldn't believe that it had come to this.
But as he looked into Kendrick's eyes, he saw something else - fear.
"I'll kill you if you don't come with me now!"
As the man's body dropped from Kendrick's grip, he felt a deep sense of betrayal.
His brother - the person he trusted the most - had just killed two men right in front of him. And now he was threatening to do the same to Him.
Kendrick's mind raced as he tried to process what was happening. He couldn't believe that the man standing in front of him was the same person he had known and loved his whole life.
He pulls Kendrick and runs towards the others leading out of the woods. Kendrick could only wail and look at the corpses as they gradually went out of sight.
*********
Meanwhile, the girl had ran for her dear life, growing increasingly weak and exhausted due to the snake bite. She could barely see where she was going, but in the distance she thought she saw a small hut, with a faint light shining through the window.
She stumbled towards it, knocking weakly on the door.
A couple, frightened and cautious, slowly opened the door, revealing a young girl in tattered clothes, who just stood silently, looking at them.
They could see that she was obviously in need of help, but they couldn't help but feel a little suspicious.
"Are you okay?" the man asked her, tentatively reaching out a hand to help.
But the child wouldn't respond. She could barely see, and her legs were starting to give way beneath her. The couple could see that she was hurt, but they were still wary of her sudden appearance.
"What's your name?" the woman asked, her voice full of concern.
"ALEXIA..." the girl said, her voice barely audible. Then, she fell forward, and the couple just managed to catch her before she hit the ground.
