Kakashi watched Iruka leave with a look of faux indifference. Arina was glancing at him uncomprehendingly, scratching one leg with the other – apparently a mosquito bit her – while holding the travel bag and her blanket in her arms. Finally, she coughed delicately:
"What is it that we nee... m-M!"
She didn't manage to finish. The things she was holding plopped to the ground, and Kakashi lifted her up, wrapping her in his arms and kissing her greedily. Having satisfied his desire, he put the girl back down, readjusting his mask with a habitual movement. As much as he'd wished not to stop at this – here, not far from Konoha, it was already indeed a little too lively.
"There," he said with satisfaction, squinting in a smile, "now we can go."
"Was it my imagination, or is someone jealous?" Arina chuckled, pressing her palms to her flushed cheeks.
"Don't know what you're talking about," Kakashi replied serenely. He picked up his travel bag and settled it in front of him, then handed Arina her blanket. "Come on, hop on." He turned his back to her.
Arina shook her head, but went up to him and began arranging the folded blanket on his back – this turned out to be the most convenient way to transport it. Suddenly she thought to herself: like a horse cloth. She snorted.
Kakashi looked at her over his shoulder:
"What is it?"
"Ah, I just remembered something..." she pressed herself against his back, wrapped her arms around his neck and let him lift her up with a familiar movement.
"What's that?" Kakashi inquired eagerly.
"Oh, nothing of interest," Arina was embarrassed.
"And yet?" Kakashi persisted. What if it was some important clue?
"A horse..." Arina muttered.
Kakashi understood everything immediately.
"Ne-eigh..." he said melancholically.
"Well, I told you..." the girl said guiltily. "Sorry, it's just... I think I could ride a horse... that's why I remembered."
Kakashi squinted amicably, even though she didn't see him.
"It's all right, I was just..." he stopped and, as far as he could, turned to Arina, "... just teasing you. For you – I can be anything you want."
He tilted his head back a little, and Arina pressed her cheek to his, wrapping her arms around him. Kakashi remembered once more how they were interrupted that morning, and, feeling her sensual touch, sighed involuntarily. It's okay. Soon they will get to Konoha, and then there will be no more obstacles – he will make sure...
He started off again. Began mulling over reflexively: horse, horse-riding... Where did they use horses? Well, generally, a lot of places. Even in Konoha, horseback riders were not uncommon... Alas, that does not help... On the other hand, it was not a common thing for a girl to be horseback riding... Perhaps if he'd just unwind this thread...
"And what did Iruka mean?" Arina suddenly asked.
"What's that?" Kakashi replied absentmindedly.
"Well, when he said that he was grateful to you not only for saving him. But also for some conversation earlier."
"Oh, it's... nothing special."
"Come on." This time it was Arina's turn to insist.
Kakashi was silent for a while and Arina thought he would not reply at all, when finally he spoke, slowly, as if reflecting on something:
