I sign the documents and hand it back to the doctor before walking over to senai.
She stares off into the distance, as if lost in thought
I tap her shoulder and she turns to me quickly putting on a smile but i've known her long enough to know that smile is fake
She's been like this ever since after the fight.
I would expect it
i never wanted her to see me like that
but i needed to defend her.
I would never let anybody disrespect her
Not unless it was me.
"lets go" I smile at her, leading her to the car.
"Mama you alright?" I ask as the uber driver pulls off from the hospital and joins the line of cars on the main road
No response
"Nai" i call out.
once again, no response
I grab onto her hand and she turns to me with wide eyes.
"you aint hear me calling you ma?" I mumble
"Sorry i was thinking. This medicine is making me tired" she yawns, then places a kiss on my cheek and rests her head onto my shoulder.
Not even 5 minutes after i hear her light snores
I sigh heavily looking at the road ahead of us
I notice the driver glancing at us in the mirror every 2 seconds making me extremely annoyed
"ayo bruh you got a problem?" I speak up, gesturing to him
"no sir. Not one" he mumbles looking straight at the road
"well top looking at me and my lady like that" I bite back.
he nods then turns up the radio a little
After a while we pull up at Senai's house, i shake her awake and tell her that we're here
"Come on ma lesgo" I hold her hand as i pay the uber driver and watch him pull of down the road out of sight.
We walk up to her door and unlock it, going inside and shutting the door behind me
"Nai we gotta talk"
"not now" she doesn't even turn to face me. She grabs her bag and starts walking away.
"Senai" i call but she doesn't stop "Listen i know you liked that nigga and all but he clearly wasn't for you since he flipped after you were out for 3 days. I told you, ain't nobody gon be for you like me-"
"Samuel I had a miscarriage, okay!" She turns to face me with teary eyes.
"what....?" I feel my heart break just a little and my whole body goes numb.
"yea...it was yours"
shit just keeps getting worse ey.
"You didn't tell me you was pregnant-"
"I didn't fucking know, okay!" She throws her bag on the ground and tears come racing down her face as she sobs loudly.
She places a hand on her waist and one over her mouth as she cries violently.
I rush to her, pulling her into a hug and she gladly accepts.
"its alright...its...its gonna be okay"
I don't even know what to say
I've never been in this position before.
Kaila was never pregnant for me so I don't even know how to feel
I feel a sudden emptiness in my heart...almost completely shattered.
A stray tear runs down my face and I rest my chin on top her head.
"Im so sorry ma....I didnt know...I-I'll be more careful next time. And For what it's worth.... I'm yours now. So there will be other opportunities and I'm gonna be here regardless" and for the first time in a long time, I feel ready for this. For her.
I pick her up And she immediately wraps her legs around me and places her hed in the crook of my neck.
I carry her up the stairs and sit her gently on her bed and strip her out of her clothes.
I pick her up again, carrying her to the bathroom.
I place her on her feet and remove my clothes.
"Senai I love you. And I mean that shit" I mumble before gently placing my lips on hers.
she kisses me back and i use the pad of my thumb to dry her wet cheeks.
we step into the shower and I lather her body in soap with her loofa.
She looks up at me and smiles weakly.
"I love you too Sammy"
