The city was in perfect condition. Despite having thousands of houses, there were no cracks or overgrowth on them that would indicate they were aging or decrepit. There were roads, but they had no cracks or holes in them; they were immaculate and had no evidence of damage on them.
In the middle of the city, there was a large statue of some sort, however, we were too high up to make out any details about it other than the statue was holding a wand of some sort. Behind the statue on the other side of the city seemed to be a large palace.
Before I could continue looking at the city, a flash came from under us. Looking down I saw Sylvie who had reverted to her two-tailed white fox form. The problem was that we were still in the air. Sylvie had seemingly fallen asleep while we were in the air.
We started to hurdle towards the city, the wind blowing past us as we plummeted towards the city streets below us.
Reaching out I grabbed Sylvie and looked towards Caera who instead of falling was sitting on top of Regis, only a bit below where we were on top of Sylvie.
"Some help would be nice!" I yelled out, the ground appearing closer. I used wind magic around us, trying to slow down our fall, but it had kindled no results.
Looking down at the ground one more time I started to prepare a large wind burst to use right before I hit the ground, but before it could come to that my fall was halted. Looking up I saw Regis holding me up by the back of my coat, a toothy grin plastered on his and Caera's face.
"Thank you."
Regis brought us down to the ground. Placing me down before landing. Caera jumped off his back and ran over to me. "Are you alright?" Caera asked, placing her hands on my shoulders. "Yes, I'm fine."
"Good. And I need payment for saving you there," Caera said, a smug smile on her face as she helped me up. "Is this good enough?" I asked, leaning in and planting a kiss on her lips.
"Yes."
"Good," I smiled, before looking down in my arms looking at Sylvie sleeping in my arms. 'What had happened? Why did she instantly turn back into the white fox form and fall asleep? Was it something with the city?'
"Arthur, you're terrible at hiding what you're thinking. Do you remember how the Relictombs worked? The city probably has something similar to that here. That could be the reason why Sylvie had fallen asleep. Let's just hope the effect wears off and she's able to wake up," Caera said. She then placed her hand on my shoulder and petted Sylvie.
"Yeah, you're right. Plus, we need to get a move on," I said, placing Sylvie back on top of Regis who had a concerned look on his face as he examined Sylvie.
We started walking through the cities of Elethia, our eyes darting around looking at our surroundings. The buildings, while old, didn't have a single crack or any sign of decay on them, it was as if they were just built.
There were lamp posts littered on the sides of the streets, it seemed like there were something like light bulbs in them, though they were most likely powered by mana.
As we walked through the city the sky continued to darken, but the surroundings seemed to have been heated, as even without the sun we weren't that cold. It was a pleasant feeling.
Turning the corner to continue on in our path I spotted someone, rather, something. It was floating down on the other side of the street, it was around fifteen feet tall, with a plant-like body that made me think back to the Elderwood Guardian. I had vines instead of legs that floated in the air, it had tree-like arms with wooden claws for hands. There was a green orb similar to its single eye floating in its ribcage.
[Hopefully, I placed the image at the top, though good chance I forgot to do so]
Its head slowly turned towards us, it's one green eye looking directly into our eyes. It was as if it was peering directly our souls ad goosebumps rose up my body. Acting out of pure instinct, I grabbed Caera, Regis, and Sylvie and rushed them into a close an alleyway. I held my hand over Caera's mouth, making sure she didn't let out a sound.
I pressed my back against the stone wall behind us, my eyes looking right out the alley where I spotted the monster. I heard the wooden vines drag across the streets, it sounded like a fork scraping against a plate.
The monster then stopped in front of the alley, as if it had known where we were. Looking up I watched as its eye was looking directly at us. I tried to move my body but I couldn't, it was as if I was stuck to the ground unable to move.
Its' vines started to come closer, moving around as if they were tendrils coming closer to us. Before the tendrils could reach us a large purple flame engulfed the tendrils.
"Get your ass off the floor and get moving!" Regis yelled, standing in front of the beast. Snapping out of my fear, I let go of Caera and we got off the ground and started to run.
Looking back, I saw the black flames disappear into the green orb instead of the chest of the monster. It was as if it absorbed the flames of destruction. I watched as it started to get bigger now easily being above 20ft.
"Oh shit! That's a problem!" Regis yelled, turning around and running after Caera and me.
We ran through the city, going from alley to alley while trying to avoid the monster that was now floating after us.
We soon made it to a large clearing in the city, looking around for another place to run. In front of us we saw another monster, it looked the same as the one chasing us except this one seemed to be smaller than the other one. I tried to look for another avenue to escape, but when I looked in a different direction I saw another coming towards us. Even when I turned around there was one waiting for us. Looking another way we saw another one and it was the same in the other direction.
The original one had caught up with us by this point, leaving us surrounded.
"Well, this is a problem."
