" So ,, that's the full story ?"

You nod timidly.

The hedgehog in front of you hums analyzing all that you had just said. His red eyes drift to the ground ,, to the horizon in front of him ,, back down. Shadow takes time to develop his response.

He's judging you. The worst part of your mind thinks. As the silence continues you can't help but feel uncomfortable with what you've said.

" I don't have much to say ," he crosses his arms. Oh .. you can't help but chew your cheek. "Other than I think you made the right decision."

" I feel a little selfish though." You retorted rather weakly.

"Because you made it your responsibility to handle things dumped on you. It's not." He turns to you fully.

" You aren't an emotional trash can for people to dump their problems in and leave. You listening to them is an offer they need to respect." His scratchy deep voice was firm ,, logical but gentle.

What he is saying is true. But some people aren't just using you. Some genuinely need help right ? You nervously fiddled with your hands. "But—"

" I'm not saying it's bad for you to be there for others. You are . . A very kind person , dear. " Dear. That's not something he calls you often ,, you can't help but melt a little inside despite the matter at hand. "But you must be kind to yourself. How will you save others if you yourself are suffering?"

You close your eyes and take a deep breath to process the information. Apart of you already knew all of this. And yet the  other part of you couldn't help but feel your doubt was selfishness.

"I just still can't really let go of the feelings." Your mouth smiles on for every other reason beside you being happy. 

"And you don't have to right now if you can't." Shadow offers you a hand. "It's just one step at a time."

Your walk continues for another 30 minutes in silence. The whole time you never let go of his hand. If you ever did ,, you'd float off and be with the bully in your head again.

"Shadow?"

He hums.

"Thank you for your advice." You squeeze his hand. The ever so reserved Shadow nods. " When did you get so good at comforting people?" 

"Comforting myself constantly." Oh. Quite blunt. "Oh . . Well again ,, thank you. I'm sorry for bringing the mood down."

Shadow slows his walking pace. " There's nothing to apologize about. I'm . . At ease myself that you were able to get things off your chest." Now it's his turn to squeeze your hand.

"But didn't you say you had something for me before we left ? Times like these are supposed to feel good." His eyes widen slightly. In the blink of an eye he's feet away from you clearing his throat. The ground becomes very interesting to him all of the sudden.

"Yes . . I do have something. I thought you had forgotten. ." Really ? Did he try to chicken out ? Oh Shadow ,, he'll always be so shy! You laugh in your mind. "Please excuse me." The black and red hedgehog teleports. And as quickly as he left , he's back again in your field of sight. Now equiped with a small box.

" I saw you eyeing this the other day so I. . " With no further explanation he places the box in your possession. On its own your mouth smiles wildly when you lay your eyes on the contents of the box. " I was eyeing this with Honey the other day. Are you sure you weren't spying on me?"

Shadow chokes on nothing ,, he tried to stay composed but can't help but frantically defend himself. "No! Of course not. I just happened to be passing by so I" he stop when he hears your laughter. "I'm just kidding Shadow!" He can't help but feel a little foolish.

You pull your new shining necklace out of the box. Humble ,, but quite a beautiful design. "Help me put it on?" Shadow blinks before approaching you. "Ah- yes of course."

Said and done ,, you strike a pose feeling a bit in a silly mood. "How do I look?!" The pose shattered and you errupted with laughter. Which was very contagious. Shadow couldn't help but smile at the tender moment away from all the burdens you held within your heart.

Please never stop smiling like that. He silently wished.

Hey ,, hi ,, hello ,, SALUTATIONS. This book has become a corpse due to my negligence. It's almost been two years 💀. I've changed a lot ,, many things have happened.

Does this mean the full return of this book ? Idk. Updates will probably be slow. For a while I was stuck between writing cute and bouncy things like what people want or staying true to myself. Which can still be cute and bouncy things lol.

I'm accepting ideas now. Half requests lol. Which means it's no guarantee that I'll write them if I'm not feeling up to it but I'll will consider it. And nothing vague "sonic x shy reader!!!!" Bc I hate when people do that that's not an idea that's a theme  give me something to work with🗿.

But I hope you've all been well. I doubt people have this book in their library anymore but oh well.
