"Zim? What are you doing here?"
"You said you wanted it to be spontaneous, so here I am! Brilliant, is it not?" He boasted.
They furrow their eyebrows in mild confusion that quickly morphs to amusement. A smile forms on their face as they stifle a quiet laugh.
"You know what? Sure." They say, "What d'you wanna know?"
His face lights up at the question. "I don't think I fully grasped the concept of dates that first time. Perhaps you could take me on another?"
It wasn't hard to tell that he was trying to conceal his smile with a matter-of-fact tone as he jumped in through the window. Or that this was just a flimsy excuse so he'd get to go out with them again.
They raise an eyebrow at the proposal with a knowing smirk but accept nonetheless. "You don't mind waiting a bit, do you? I might take a minute getting dressed."
"That's quite alright." He waves his hand dismissively and sits down to wait. "I didn't expect you to be ready."
They nod and grab a few clothes from the wardrobe, bringing them to change in the bathroom. Barely any time had passed before they finished adding the finishing touches, a coffee-colored varsity jacket among these.
They unlock the door, half expecting their apartment to be bursting up in flames. Instead, they find the destructive little alien patiently waiting. Well, what a pleasant surprise! He stands up upon noticing your arrival, giving you a quick salute.
"I hope I didn't take too long."
"Not at all. Now. Shall we?" He gestures towards the door.
"Sure," They grab their keys, phone, and wallet before opening the door. "Where were you thinking?"
The alien shrugs in response. Zim puts his disguise on. And the two walk down the stairs and out of the apartment, listing ideas of places to go.
The tree-lined street was more vibrant than usual. The ground was only partially dried, patches of grey shades ranging from smoke to charcoal scattered across the pavement. And the leaves on the trees above were a green brighter than any Irken's skin.
Drawing a breath, they take in the cool breeze as it waves through their hair. The human takes a few steps from the building before taking Zim's hand in theirs. He turns to swiftly look at their face before redirecting his gaze to their joined hands, switching back and forth between the two, mouth agape.
"Sorry, should I stop?"
"No-!" He interrupts himself with a dismissive gesture. "Eh, I mean to say- That will not be necessary. That is one of your human romantic rituals, yes?"
They hum in confirmation, rubbing a thumb gently over his knuckles for good measure.
"Ah, I thought so." A faint yellow blush covers his face. "Seeing as that is the objective of this outing, you may continue."
"Cool." They say with a smile as they lead him along the walkway.
