When Callie woke up the next morning, she couldn't bring herself to get out of bed just yet. She and Kiara weren't exactly in a good spot, she probably hadn't made things any easier between Kiara and Pope and then on top of that - the biggest problem of all - John B was missing.

Deciding not to face reality for a bit longer, she rolled over. Reaching out, she picked up the ring JJ had given her off of her bedside table. Callie rolled it between her fingers, looking at it from every distinguishable angle.

She could tell that he'd had it for a while just from the wear on the surface. The fact that he had given her something that clearly meant enough to him that he had held onto it for so long spoke volumes to her.

Climbing out of bed, she went over to her dresser and opened the jewellery box she had been given when she was younger. It was small and her mother had painted a sunset over the sea on the lid.

Digging in, she found what she was looking for. Callie pulled out an old necklace, untangling it from a couple of others as she did so. It was the one she owned with the longest chain and knew that it would meet her purpose.

After removing the shell pendent and putting it in the jewellery box, she returned to her bedside and picked the ring up once more. She then proceeded to string the ring onto the chain before reaching around her neck and securely fasten it.

Releasing the chain she allowed the ring to fall and come to rest against her chest. Callie then got dressed, pulling on a pair of shorts and a shirt over the top of a bikini, pairing it with her Converses. Grabbing the ring, she pulled her shirt forward enough to slip it beneath the material.

She bit her lower lip when she felt herself smile at the feel of the cold metal against her skin. Out of everything that had happened, why did this seem like the least likely thing to ever happen?

Brushing her hair out, Callie finally left her room. As she got closer to the dining room, she could hear shouting. She knew her parents were at work and that didn't leave too many options for who could be yelling.

Walking into the room, she saw JJ and Finn sitting at the dining table. Spread across it were M&Ms and small candy bars, as well as playing cards. Finn laid out his hand with a smug grin, "Straight Flush."

"Ain't no way that you're not cheating, man!" JJ shouted as he threw down a hand of cards.

Finn laughed as he reached out, dragging a small pile of chocolates towards his side of the table. After turning the stove on for the kettle, Callie went over with her arms crossed.
"JJ, are you really teaching Finn how to play poker?"
