Chapter 9: The test

After the incident in the nest Hiccup, Astrid and Blake went back to the cove on their dragons

"Now it totally makes sense" Astrid said when they landed "Is a giant hive, they're the workers that's their queen and controls them, come on let's find your dad"

"NO!" Hiccup and Blake said stopping Astrid "Not yet, they'll kill Toothless and Thunder" Hiccup said

"And what are we supposed to say anyway, Astrid? That we found the dragon nest riding dragons?" Blake asked

"I guess you are right, but what do we do then?" Astrid said

"Just give me until tomorrow I'll figure something out" Hiccup said, then Astrid punched Hiccup on the shoulder "That's for kidnaping me" she said

Hiccup only looked at Blake who just shrugged and then Astrid kissed Hiccup on the cheek "That's for everything else" Astrid said before leaving a stunned Hiccup behind, Hiccup then looked at Toothless who was giving him a funny face

"What are you looking at?" Hiccup asked

Blake decided to walk where Hiccup was and put a hand on his shoulder "Hiccup are you sure about this?" Blake asked

"I'm sure, we can't leave now I have to do something" Hiccup said

"Okay, but you know you can count on me no matter what happens" Blake said

"Thanks, Blake" Hiccup said

The next day all Berk was reunited in the arena, it was time for Hiccups final exam "Well I can show my face in public again" Stoick said

"If anyone has told me than in just a few short weeks Hiccup would go from being well... Hiccup to placing first on dragon training I would've tide them to a mast and shipped them off for fear they gone mad!" Stoick joked

Hiccup was in the entrance of the arena listening to everything "But here we are and no one is more surprised or prouder than me, today my boy becomes a Viking, today he becomes one of us!" Stoick cheered as well as the crowd did

"Be careful with that dragon" Astrid said appearing behind Hiccup with Blake "It's not the dragon I'm worried about" Hiccup said looking at his father "What are you going to do?" Astrid asked "Put an end to this, I have to try" Hiccup said

"And you will, I know you can" Blake said trying to motivate Hiccup who turned around and looked at them

"Astrid, Blake, if something goes wrong make sure they don't find Toothless and Thunder" Hiccup said

"We will" Astrid and Blake said

"Just promise than it won't go wrong" Astrid said worried, then Gobber appeared "It's time Hiccup, knock them dead"

Hiccup walked into the arena and go to the weapon's rack and there he grabbed a shield and a dagger "I would have gone for the hammer" Stoick said to himself

"I'm ready" Hiccup said

A Viking pulled up a rope opening the cage, immediately the Monstrous Nightmare get out of its cage with its body on fire and running all over the arena "Come on, Hiccup give it to him" a random Viking yelled

Hiccup began to slowly walk backwards while the Mostrous Nightmare walked towards Hiccup who eventually dropped his dagger and shield

"Hey it's okay, it's okay" Hiccup said gently to the Nightmare "I'm not one of them" he said dropping his helmet making all of the Viking's gasp confused "Stop the fight" Stoick ordered "No! I need you all to see this" Hiccup said

"I said stop the fight!" Stoick yelled banging his hammer against the bars of the arena

That made the Monstrous Nightmare hostile again almost biting Hiccup's hand off, to make things worse the Nightmare began to chase Hiccup around the arena

"Out of my way!" Stoick ordered walking to the entrance of the arena

"HICCUP!" Astrid and Blake screamed then Astrid grabbed an axe from the wall using it to open the gate a little, Astrid and Blake crawled entering the arena with Hiccup who was still running away from the Nightmare knocking all of the weapons in the prosses

Astrid grabbed the first hammer that she found and threw it at the Nightmare's face, Blake did the same but with a shield that made the Nightmare mad and started to charge at them making them run away

"This way!" Stoick said opening completely the gate making Hiccup, Astrid and Blake ran forwards Stoick, Astrid and Blake were able to gate to safety but when Hiccup tried to do the same the Nightmare blast the gate making Hiccup scream

At the cove Toothless and Thunder heard Hiccup's screams Toothless was trying to get out of the cove while Thunder made everything he could to help him

When Toothless was able to get out of the cove he roared at Thunder making him stay in the cove

Back at the arena Hiccup was still running away from the Nightmare until a plasma blast destroyed some of the bars creating a smokescreen and Toothless came out of it roaring at the Nightmare

"Night Fury!" Gobber said in shock, Toothless and the Nightmare began to fight but Toothless quickly win making the Nightmare return to its cage scared

"Toothless you got to get out of here" then he saw some Vikings grabbing weapons, Hiccup already knew their intentions "GO! GO!" Hiccup yelled trying to make Toothless leave as soon as possible but he stayed there

Stoick grabbed an axe ready to kill Toothless "No dad, he won't hurt you!" Hiccup said, Toothless started to charge at Stoick knocking every other Viking in his path until he tacked Stoick into the ground

"Toothless stop!" Hiccup cried but Toothless didn't listen and roared at Stoick ready to kill him "NO! NO!" then Toothless finally listen to Hiccup but the Vikings were able to capture Toothless "No please!" Hiccup said trying to reach Toothless

But Astrid and Blake were forced to hold him back "Put him with the others!" Stoick ordered looking at Hiccup

At that moment Hiccup knew that he was in very big trouble
