He played with both politics and power,

Balancing between his Lord and Master,

Advised the emperor in his tower,

Before all else he served as a pastor:

And with the breath of death, the throne replaced;

He came to save Rome as God's messenger,

Henry the fourth, the Pope he did deface,

The Church insulted, lay investiture:
__________________________
Despite all the worldly distractions,

He never became blind to what mattered,

He tended to his flock without factions,

Those guilty of simony, he scattered:

You walked the line between Earth and Heaven,
