Small Heath, Birmingham

Mar rose on a crisp Sunday morning, her mind set on reaching the Shelby residence as swiftly as her feet could carry her. She was buzzing with excitement, eager to dive into preparations for the youngest Shelby's birthday celebration.

As she briskly made her way through the quiet streets of Small Heath, the morning sun cast a golden glow upon the cobblestones, painting the scene with a serene charm. Mar couldn't help but feel a sense of anticipation building within her as she approached the familiar threshold of the Shelby home.

When she knocked on the door, her heart did a little dance as Thomas appeared, casually smoking a cigarette. Memories of their recent encounter flickered in her mind, but she swiftly pushed them aside, reminding herself of the harsh reality that followed.

He greeted her warmly and invited her in, chatting about the fair he and his brothers were planning to attend, which included the youngest Shelby. Mar walked into the Shelby digs, taking in the familiar sights. Excitement hung in the air like a cloud.

Her mood dipped when she realized Finn, despite knowing she was coming to cook for his 10th birthday, had other plans and was about to leave. She couldn't help but sulk a bit, shooting a pleading look at the Shelby brothers and her cousin, hoping to change their minds. "I want to come with you lots."

Arthur smirked at her pouting lips, while John shot a glance at Thomas. One look from Mar and he knew he was toast. Diego just rolled his eyes at his cousin's antics.

"No dice, Mar. This is a lads' day out." Thomas said firmly, puffing on his cigarette and giving her a pointed look.

Merely, Marianna James wasn't one to take no for an answer, especially from Thomas Shelby. "But I wished to see the horse-"

Thomas scratched his head, stepping closer to Mar and placing his hands gently on her shoulders. "Maybe next time, Mar. And you've got your shift at the garrison soon, right?"

Staring hard at Thomas's face, she tried to decipher his stubbornness about her joining them, letting out a heavy sigh as she realized it. She knew there was more to the fair than meets the eye, and she wasn't keen on witnessing any Peaky Blinders business firsthand.

"Keep a close eye on Finn, okay?" Marianna reluctantly agreed.

"Aw, Mari, we always look after the little one." John chimed in, throwing an arm around her shoulder. She shot him a side glance, still frowning.
