I've come back
after a lifetime of running
to the place I belong
and to the place
people say is my home

And because I ran,
I keep looking
at the same sky
above us
like stars in the night sky
—I know I have nothing
in store for me

It's a tale as old
as the memory of blood
—the cries of the people
and the silence we stopped—
and now, I'm back
to the way it was before
and like stars in the night sky
I will watch without a word
to see endless lines cross and vanish,
shapes form only to break apart,
and lives touch only to wreck each other
without ever letting go

I've come back
after a lifetime of telling myself
I'll never be enough
and I realize
I never am
—like stars in the night sky
shining bright until they burn
I will be nothing but dust
in the void known as the world
soon.
