We were meant for each other.

It was a warm autumn afternoon in Maui, Hawaii, and it was almost perfect if it wasn't for the loud roaring of engines coming from the Mars transportation pods flying through the air. People have been moving to Mars ever since the climate has met a detrimental impact. Volcanoes were erupting simultaneously, people were fleeing planet Earth desperately in hopes to find a new place to call home. Brynn Raven McHammington, a 19 year old girl, perched effortlessly on her hammock located on her rosewood porch.

She sighed, "I miss my friends..."

She was interrupted by the loud blast of lava spewing out of a nearby volcano. She watched with wide eyes the thick, hot, red liquid fly through the air. This made her heart ache. She thought of her late mother, who breathed her one last breath not too long ago, as her life was taken and swallowed by this hot molten fluid. Brynn looked down at the gold heart pendant which hung with pride on her neck. She touched it gently, lifting it up. Opening it, she remembered her aunt Beau giving it to her in memory of her mother. Tears flowed out of her eyes, but she refused to expose any signs of weakness. She collected herself as she headed inside her home. There, she was met by two familiar figures.

Auntie Beau and her father, Creedilius, were standing side by side before Brynn.

Beau spoke first. "Brynn, we have something to tell you.."

Brynn looked up at her, confused.

"What do you mean?"

"Well," her father spoke with his deep, manly voice, "We've thought about this for a while. We're moving to Mars!"

"What?!" Brynn was nearly speechless. Instead of the excited expression her aunt and father were expecting, her face was full of confusion, sorrow, and so many mixed emotions. She tried to speak but no words came out.

Brynn ran with tears flowing down her perfect face. She slowly packed her belongings in the lavender suitcase her childhood best friend had given her for her 12th birthday. Back then, it was so much better. We were together, doing things children did. "Chevuæl and I," she thought, "would I really be leaving him, after everything we've been through?" Now, they were expected to mature and become independent. That reminded her, if she were to move to Mars, she would have to leave him. She couldn't bear the thought of never seeing him again.

For days leading up to her departure, Brynn cried nonstop. She couldn't cope with this matter.

"Okay," her aunt said in a tired voice, "It's time to board."

Aunt Beau, Brynn's father, and Brynn were at the Space Shuttle Facility with their many pieces of luggage with them. They had packed everything, sold their house, and left without any plans to return. "Leaving was the hardest part," Brynn thought as the three loaded their baggage onto the conveyor belt leading to the valiant spacecraft. After around 25 minutes, they entered the gate and were seated in the shuttle.

Brynn sat by the window, staring out at Earth one last time as the transportation pod traveled through the atmosphere, leaving the exhausted planet behind. She can't help but cry, it was only second nature.

Back on Earth, a confused Chevuæl drove to the McHammington property, only to be met by a large 'FOR SALE' sign on the home's front lawn. "What?" he mumbled to himself. He ran up to the door in hopes that Brynn might still be there. He knew that she needed to leave sometime this week, but he didn't know exactly when. He knocked on the door impatiently.

"Brynn..Brynn! Open up! Are you there?" Chevuæl was belting his heart out, but nobody was there to comfort him. Brynn was gone. He fell to his knees.

"Why?! Why did she leave! Why didn't she tell me?"
