warnings: sfw, fluff, gn!reader, just visiting sheriff Caitlyn at work
"Knock knock."
Caitlyn looked up from her reports instantly at the sound of your voice, eyes going straight to the door of her office. Your head was peeking from behind the door, an adoring smile etched on your face as you eyed Caitlyn. Your hand was outstretched, gently shaking the bag in your hand.
"Lunch?"
Caitlyn tilted her head in confusion, her gaze drifting from the bag in your hand to the clock on her desk, the hands on the clock clearly indicating that it was already late in the afternoon. She groaned, realising that she lost track of time after spending most part of her morning going through she reports. Caitlyn shot you an apologetic grin, hands scrambling to move her the papers on her desk in an attempt to tidy them up.
You kicked the door close with the heel of your foot, a small chuckle leaving past your lips as you shook your head at Caitlyn, slowly crossing the room to make your way to her desk. Your eyes flickered to her face, biting the inside of your cheek when you noticed the dark circles under her eyes. You're aware that she hasn't been getting enough sleep; always coming back home late at night and even when she's home, her thoughts would be occupied with the cases she's working on. You don't blame her though. Ever since Caitlyn got promoted to Sheriff, she's been tasked to shoulder more responsibilities – taking in more cases, longer shifts and going through the other officers' reports.
You dropped the bagged lunch gently on her desk, moving around the things on the desk to make more space.
"I'm assuming you haven't had lunch?" You teased, grabbing a chair from the side of the room to settle it beside her.
Caitlyn sighed wearily, undoing her hair from the tight ponytail she had kept since morning and ran her fingers through the strands. The tips of your ears warmed as you stared at her unabashedly, forcing yourself to look away as you took a seat on the chair. Gods, she's beautiful.
"I haven't. Sorry love, I've been busy," Caitlyn shook her head, jutting her lower lip in a small pout. Your eyes drifted down to her lips, lingering a bit too long at the sight of her plump lips before moving back to catch her eyes.
"Good thing I brought you lunch," You beamed at her. Caitlyn watched you, eyes soft, her heart fluttering in her chest as you carefully took the lunch boxes out. You handed one to her, head tilting when she didn't make the motion to grab it from you so you nudged it towards her hands softly.
"Did you make these?" Caitlyn's voice was impossibly soft, fingers slowly reaching out to take hold of the box as she settled it on her lap.
"I did. I wanted to bake you cupcakes but I didn't have enough time."
Caitlyn's heart skipped at your words, chest warming at your thoughtful gesture. Her eyes flickered up to your face and you watched the dark sweep of her eyelashes as she searched your face. Your face pinked under her gaze, averting your eyes away, the edge of your lips threatening to split into a nervous smile.
Your breath stuttered when you feel the warm pads of her fingertips touch the side of your face, stroking your cheek. Your eyes flickered to hers and suddenly, you're overwhelmed. It was just one small gesture; all you wanted was to bring her lunch and spend some time with her. It really isn't a big deal. Besides, all you did was make her sandwiches, nothing special. But the way Caitlyn's staring at you right now, eyes shining, tender and so full of love made you want to crawl into your own skin (in a good way). Your heart picks up a little, your eyes darting back and forth between hers; you can't bring yourself to look away, no matter how lightheaded you're getting under her stare.
"Thank you," She whispered, tilting your chin up slightly, closing the gap between the both of you and pressing a chaste kiss on your forehead. Your lips split into a smile, cheeks warm as you waved her off nonchalantly.
"Oh, it's nothing."
"It's not nothing. This means a lot to me, love."
You bit your lip at the pet name, cheeks straining with how hard you're smiling. "Do you think– Do you think I can stay here with you? While you work? I'll be quiet, I promise. I won't disturb you. I just want to...spend time with you," You mumbled, twiddling with your thumbs.
"Of course you can!" Caitlyn grabbed hold of your hand, fingers wrapping around yours gently as she slowly brought your hand to her lips, pressing a soft kiss on your knuckles.
Your heart soared at the gesture, giggling as she continued to press small quick pecks on the back of your hand. You love this; you love seeing the tension leave her shoulders as she gets more relaxed. The way she's less strained, more loose-lipped, especially behind closed doors where she doesn't have to keep up the image of Piltover's Sheriff. You sighed softly as you gaze at her affectionately, mentally capturing the image of her smiling, pressing soft kisses on your fingertips, keeping it securely locked away in your heart for safekeeping because you're the only one who gets to see her like this.
