EVANGELINE SKY FLANAGAN DIDN'T mean to make the President hate her. Honest.

There's a reason that the broadcast of the Sixty-Eighth Hunger Games was cut. Capitol and District residents alike were told, "technical difficulties," and "a glitch in the system." The President should be so lucky.

No, no. It was Evangeline Sky, standing tall in a tree stripped bare of all of its leaves, dressed in a torn wetsuit, her dark hair stuck to her olive skin with sweat and saltwater, holding a long piece of thick rope. One end of the rope was tied to one of the tree's naked branches, the other tied in a noose. In the dim light of nighttime, Evangeline Sky sang.

Evangeline Sky's family had been musicians, once upon a time, before they fled their District and snuck into another, blending in as if it was theirs from the beginning. Nana Baird had taught Nana Mags the words to all of their songs when they began dating, they taught their daughter, and when their daughter passed, they taught their granddaughter in her honour.

The Capitol knew Evangeline Sky as the Games Baby, the only ( known ) child to be born to a tribute who, unfortunately, didn't make it out of the Games alive. Evangeline Sky's mother, Scylla Cyan, had only given birth a mere two months prior to the dreaded Reaping that ripped her from motherhood. From that moment on, Evangeline Sky was the Capitol's pride and joy. Paraded about the Capitol every Games season with Nana Mags, who continued to work as a mentor even though District 4 had spawned a significant few Victors in the years since her Games. Nobody could ever forget the growing girl's face.

The Capitol would go on to know Evangeline Sky as the girl who killed four tributes by drowning them in her arena — an archipelago of islands surrounded by unfathomably deep, salty water.

The Capitol would never know Evangeline Sky as the girl who sang The Hanging Tree whilst hanging the girl from Three, who was too eager to fight that she missed the obvious trap lying in wait.

No, the Capitol wouldn't know. But President Snow would. And the Capitol would never know how much it shook him to his core.

DISCLAIMER:

only own my original characters and
their storylines. everything else
belongs to the creators.

TRIGGER WARNINGS:
— this story contains explicit language,
major and minor character death, graphic
descriptions of violence and gore,
references to sex, references to sexual
assault, references to mental health

OTHER INFO:
— i love the hunger games books AND i
love the films, right. and the films made
some changes from the books. just to make
everything super clear up front — i'm
MAINLY going to be using the books as
my references for this fic. however, i adore
some of the changes that made it to the
films, therefore i'll 100% be sprinkling
some of those in to this. all this to say —
if you notice inconsistencies, like the death
order switching around, scenes that didn't
make it to the film intermingled with scenes
that were created FOR the films, it is
completely intentional to make for an all
around better story to read, and a better story
for my pride and joy — miss evangeline sky.
i don't think i've ever loved an oc as much as
i love her, and i want to do her proud.
