Chapter 33: Ava is Sick!

"Are life and death that simple for you?" Pierce scowls. It was possible that he had killed more than Leif, yet he still had yet to be as numb to it.

Leif only laughs. "Why are you asking such stupid questions?" He asks, only getting a deathly glare from Pierce in return. "I said it before and I'll say it again, E-urth has changed us whether we want to admit it or not. I can't quite put my finger on why it happened..."

Pierce's eyes widen at that and looks back at Ava. Within seconds, he knows that he's right and that he's allowed his dangerous facade to slip away all because of a couple of humans. Letting his guard down like that on Daemos would make for an uncertain future, he could lose his title, his power, his terrifying image. He could be killed. "Kill her." He finally speaks as he lowers his sword.

"Huh?"

"I'm allowing you to do it. Go."

A giddy smile appears on the assassin's face, his eyes sparkling at an opportunity to wreak havoc. "Really?"

Pierce only gives a firm nod in response and quiet "Yes." leaves him.

Leif lets out a laugh, sounding something akin to some overly dramatized villain they would have heard on TV. "Alright!" He phased in front of Ava with a grin, but his expression quickly morphs into one of confusion as he gazes upon the human. "Huh?"

Before he can say anymore, he is thrown to the side of the pool by a burst of fire. Asch is standing at the other side of the pool, anger practically radiating off of him. "Why do you insist on defying my orders?"

Leif stands up, barely missing the small fountain of water spilling into the pool as he does so. "You all knew how I was when I asked to become a knight!"

"We are trying to court the human, who is bonded to the princess sorceress!" Asch huffs back at him. "We cannot do that if she's dead."

Leif's eyes suddenly widen as realization strikes him. "She's already dead!"

All at once the frustration drains from the other two Daemos only to be replaced by shock and horror. "What?!" They move to stand before Ava, Leif following as well.

Asch lifts Ava out of the water by her arms, observing her burning hot, flushed skin and her drowsy expression. "I, wha- Who did this?" He looks over at Leif. "It was you, wasn't it?"

"I wish!" Leif scoffs.

Pierce looks between the other two knight, then back at Ava. "What do we do?"

The prince looks at Ava for a long moment before he furrows his brows. "Rhys!"

Leif tenses. "No, Asch, don't tell him!"

"We have no choice." Asch states with a shake of his head. "Rhys!"

The three of them all pause, waiting for the advisor to join them, but nothing happens.

"Where's Rhys?" Pierce asks.

"Oh no!" Leif gasps. "Her parents must have gotten their 911 soldiers on him!"

"How would they know she's dead?"

"She's a powerful sorceress and she said her parents put an overprotective spell on her!"

Asch stiffens and his eyes go wide. "What does that even mean?"

"I don't know, but it probably means Rhys is dead!" Leif yells.
