57- Act like one

"Toby" I said sadly
"What's the point Bloss? She doesn't want me, what's the point in eating? She'll soon reject me fully and I'll turn crazy like all the others" he said disinterested
I sat beside his bed, opposite Sin

"Toby, she'll come round, it isn't her, I'm not sure what it is but-" I tried, taking hold of his hand
"But what? She wants him" he said, pulling away and turning over, facing Sin

"How is he?" Sin asked
"He's... he's still alive" I said
"I don't know why you won't just let me kill him. It'll solve everything" he said, a flash of black in his eyes as he spoke
"Keep Killian at bay please, you know we can't let him die Sin" I said.

Keane was... evil for whatever he's pulled here
But we couldn't kill him
He was a council member
There would be an uproar

"Why not? If you'd all stop babysitting me and let me go I could do it for you" Toby said bitterly
I sighed, standing up
"I'll be back soon" I said, I had to take food to Maisie as well.

She looked... drained
In pain. Crying out
Also chained to her bed and lying in agony
The difference was Toby knew why
She thought she needed Keane
Whatever he had done... it had really changed her

"Here" I said, dropping the plate beside her bedside
"Keane, I need Keane" she said, I ignored her, simply leaving
I know this wasn't her fault
At least, I wanted to believe this wasn't her fault
But I couldn't stand there and listen to it.

I couldn't listen to her break Toby's heart more and more everyday they were apart.

I made my way through the castle, down to the medical wing as Asteria sat waiting by Keane's beside
"Ah, you're here, I was wondering when one of you would turn up to finish the job" Asteria chuckled, standing up

"Can you give us a moment?" I asked
She laughed
"You're the Queen now dear, you don't ask, you command" she corrected, leaving the room as she took one last fleeting glance over Keane's battered body.

I sat down where she once was
"Come to see the damage?" Keane scoffed, wincing in pain
"No" I said simply
"I've come to talk to you" I said

"Blossom? A moment?" Asteria called out, continuing through the doorway
I sighed, getting up and following her out
"Yes?" I asked
"You need to stop mithering, dithering, you're a queen now, and what he's done is as good as treason" she said bluntly.

"Excuse me?" I asked
"I'm just saying, you're a queen now, you need to act like one" she said, walking away

I was wasn't I?
Or was I being too soft?

I took a breath, before going back in to see Keane
"Has the high duchess reprimanded you as well dear Blossom? Sorry... your highness" Keane chuckled
"Do you have any idea what you have done?" I asked simply, gripping the end of his bed frame as I looked at him.

He smiled
"The real question is, do any of you have any idea what I have done?" He teased
"Keane. Sin nearly murdered you. He will murder you" I said
He was absolutely furious
Killian was making many more appearances than he normally did

I think the truth of it was that Sin just couldn't handle feeling Toby's sadness. And Killian had to step in
"Oh he wouldn't kill me, after all, Maisie quite likes me doesn't she?" He asked smugly
"She'd have a hard time liking you if you were dead" I warned.
