An Armful of Crime?

Start from the beginning

Some hours later, Otto had finally arrived to the Bakery with a worried expression on his face. Stepping inside, the fresh smell of delicious baked goods wafted through the air, tempting even the most strict dieters into a cheat day. Sitting down at a table near the window, Sammy saw him from across the way and happily came by for a chat. "Good to see you, Otto!" She said, handing him a freshly baked Cinnamon Roll and a coffee. "Thank you, Sammy." He replied, fiddling around with his hands a bit and looking slightly more worried than before. "Are you gonna be ok?" She asked and Otto snapped back to reality a second. "Oh, uh, yes I should be ok. Just waiting for someone." He said, returning his gaze out the window. Sammy was intrigued, but also a small bit jealous for some reason. Unsure of why, she returned to the counter to continue working. Just then, (y/n) entered and immediately sat down across from the shy Scientist. "Hey. It's me. Got what I asked for?" You asked and Otto had to do a double take just to be certain. "How do I know it's really you?" He asked and you chuckled. "Still care about the secret under the tarp, big boy? I need that info, Science boy, otherwise things are gonna go missing." You said, and Otto gave you a fearful expression. "Ok fine, here." He said, handing you a folder with some secret Oscorp info inside. You gave him a small grin and proceeded to browse through it, not noticing the person watching you two with protective concern. Sammy didn't like you; didn't like the way Otto seemed fearful of you, and wanted to jump in and protect him. "Thanks, sweet cheeks. Mama's gonna be so proud of me." You said, handing the folder back to the man. "You don't need this?" He asked, confusion laced in his voice. "Nope. Photographic memory is pretty useful. Enjoy your lunch. Maybe one day we'll meet up again under more..." You paused, searching for the word. "Pleasant circumstances?" You gave him a wink, got up, and left, leaving the man to sit alone in the very cozy cottage style Bakery. Sammy immediately ran over to Otto to see if he was ok. "Why was that person here? Did they threaten you? Hurt you? You're gonna be ok, right?" She asked and Otto just sipped his coffee. "I'll be fine, Sammy. You don't need to worry about me." He said, and Sammy shook her head. "I'll always worry about you, Otto. People who care, worry." She said, sitting down with him to help him relax some.

That night, (y/n) snuck back into Oscorp, this time with a plan to steal what was under the tarp. "Science boy seemed so defensive over that thingy..." You said to yourself as you stood on the roof of the building, waiting for everyone to leave. You fiddled around with the Nanotech suit, checking out all the cool gadgets you now had access to. That's when you heard the familiar sound of web slinging nearby. Noticing you from afar, the webbed hero landed not too far from you, coming to investigate what you were doing. "Sup, Spidey." You said, continuing to fiddle with the gadgets. "I could ask you the same thing. What are you doing up here?" Spider-Man asked and you shrugged. "Fucking around with my new suit, enjoying the sights, trying to avoid unwanted interactions... Y'know, the usual. What about you? Catch any baddies yet?" You asked, a sly smile on your face. "You know it. Listen, I don't think Osborn would be too happy with you hanging out on his property without permission." Spider-Man said, trying to usher you off the building and somewhere else. You refused by sitting down. "So then why are you here? Listen Spiderboi, I've got unfinished business here, so either help me or fuck off. I'm really not in the mood for small talk or friendly banter..." You said, trailing off as the thought of your mother took center stage. Spider-Man sat down next to you and sighed. "I heard about what happened to your mom. I really hope she wakes up." He said, resting a hand on your shoulder. "You know the accident wasn't anyone's fault." You shed a few tears before nodding softly. "Thanks for saving her, bro. It's been rough without her guidance. We should get together sometime. Maybe have a chat and hit up that nearby Cottage Cakes place. My treat." You said and Spider-Man smiled. "Sure. I've been meaning to try that place out." He said before swinging away. Waiting a few moments for him to disappear, you masked up and snuck inside, heading back to the Lab where your sweet prize awaited. So entirely unaware that the hero was still nearby, watching you to see what you were up to.

When you finally made it inside, you noticed the Scientist was still there, accompanied by what you swore was the Baker from earlier. Watching them intently, you noticed they seemed to have a close relationship with one another, and figured you could use it to your sickening advantage; maybe use the girl as leverage if he cares about her enough. You then saw the Scientist pull the tarp off of the object, and stared at it mildly dumbfounded. "These are my helping hands." Otto said to Sammy, who had a look of awe on her face. "Those are awesome! You built all that yourself?" She asked and Otto smiled. "Why yes, actually. They help me out with projects too dangerous for myself to handle." He said, giving Sammy a quick demonstration. Picking her up, Sammy couldn't help but laugh, having quite a lot of fun being swung around. You rolled your eyes and waited until the man set the arms back down on their stand before dropping from the vent to grab them. Sammy caught you just as you were about to steal them, and before either person could stop you, you had already left with the arms. "No no no nonononononononono this is bad. This is very bad! Mr. Osborn will kill me for this!" Otto said, frantically pacing around in fear of what would happen to him if his boss found out about this. "Otto, stop freaking out for a second. I'm sure Spider-Man can help us." Sammy said with a hug, and, as if on cue, the webhead appeared. "Don't worry about it, I'll get your arms back for ya!" He said, swinging towards you as quickly as he could. You managed to remove the arms from their harness and attach them to your suit, using them as extra weapons against the hero. "I'm not letting you take this from me! Osborn already stole my prized project and took all the damn credit for it, I'm not letting him succeed anymore! It's not fair to me, and it's not fair to anyone else!" You exclaimed, grabbing the man's foot and flinging him back away from you. The sudden imbalance of weight caused you to stumble backwards, but you caught yourself before you could fall. "Wow, all these arms and you still can't get a grip, can you?" Spider-Man said, covering you up in a web cocoon. You managed to break free pretty easily, and punched your now enemy in the face, causing him to stumble pretty bad. "Leave me alone! You don't understand what I'm fucking going through!" You shouted, preparing to jump off the roof of the building you were on to escape. Spider-Man webbed up the mechanical arms and pulled as hard as he could, detaching them from your suit and sending you tumbling backwards. "No! Dammit, no! This isn't fair!" You exclaimed, tears streaming down your face. "I was supposed to win this time. I was supposed to finally be happy..." You began crying, realizing you had failed again. Spider-Man sighed softly, webbing up the arms and harness together and slinging them over his shoulder. "Stay here, alright? I won't toss you in jail but I do wanna have a talk with you." He said, heading back to the Lab to return the stolen stuff. You glared at him with an underlying anger as he swung away, and wiped your tears away before lying there, utterly defeated. Before you could even process the night you had, your phone rang. Pulling it out of your pocket, you checked the caller ID to see it was unknown. You answered it. "Were you able to do what you needed to?" The all too familiar voice on the other end asked. "No. Of course not. Spider-Man fucked up my getaway." You said bitterly. Hammerhead sighed, and for a few moments there was radio silence. "Hey kid?" He finally said, and you hummed in acknowledgment. "You might wanna swing by the hospital real soon." "Why?" You asked, interest piqued. "It's about your mother." Hammerhead said, and you immediately clutched you phone tighter. "What about my mother?" You seethed, teeth barred in mild anger. "I'll send the Limo to pick you up, just tell me where you are." Hammerhead said and you wiped another tear from your face. "Standing on the building where that Cottage Cakes Bakery is. Not too far from Oscorp. Now tell me what the fuck's wrong with my mother." You snapped. "She woke up." Hammerhead said, and your heart stopped a second. "See you soon, (y/n)." He finished, hanging up and letting the info soak into your thoughts.

Maybe this day wasn't so bad after all...
