Chapter 1 - Denail

Christmas Day 2015
"Louie!" Kelly smiled
"Will you stop calling me that!" Louella protested
"Oh come on, your only 15. Don't tell me your too old for nicknames?!" Kelly laughed as he messed up her hair
"Kelly!" Louella yelled
"Will you stop torturing her?" Casey asked
"See! This is why Casey will always be my favourite" Louella laughed
"Hey!" Kelly said as he began to tickle her
"Okay! OKAY! Your my favourite" Louella laughed
"Quit traumatising my child Severide" Darden said as he walked in alongside heather who linked arms with him
"Look at us, getting the Christmas Day shift for the 3rd year in a row" Herrmann added
"Shocking if you ask me, having to spend Christmas with you idiots" Mouch laughed
"Oh cheer up Mouch, what it's only 1 more year till you retire?" Darden laughed
"Very funny" Mouch said
"But hey, we don't know if we're going to make it till tomorrow, any of us" Darden explained
"Hey the day you die, is the day I no longer own truck 81" Casey said
"I'm sure I'll last longer than you old man" Darden laughed
"Andrew, Not in front of Lou please" Heather said looking at louellas worried face
Darden took one look at his daughter and kneeled down in front of her and took her hands in his.
"Hey kiddo, I can assure you I'll be around to help you with tons of science experiments. I'm going to see you become the next Albert Einstein. I'm not going anywhere, okay?" Darden said softly
"Okay" Louella smiled
"And I won't let anything happen to him" Casey smiled
"Neither Will I" Kelly said
"Turkeys ready!" Boden yelled
They all gathered at the table and began to fill their plates. They pulled Christmas crackers and laughed.
"God I'm stuffed" Mouch said as he unbuttoned his belt
"What's new" Capp muttered
"Don't be a Dick" Mouch yelled
"Hey! Language in front of Lou!" Heather yelled
"Right sorry Lou" Mouch added as Louella laughed
"You should hear Kelly when he's working on his cars" Louella added
"I paid you 30$ for you not to tell your mom!" Kelly said
"Whoops" Louella said as she ran off
"This kid is going to be the death of me!" Kelly said as he ran after her

January 25th 2016
"How do I look?" Darden asked as he put his mask on the side of his face
"Like the class clown" Casey laughed
Casey then picked up his radio
"Hey Severide, how long till you can take this idiot off my hands" Casey laughed
"The day Andy makes squad is the day I'm not longer in charge" Kelly laughed
They arrived at the scene a short time later, it was nothing but a small house fire.
"Squad! Let's find a vent!" Kelly yelled
Truck swung their ladder to the first window and Darden climbed it
"How's that vent?" Casey yelled down his radio
Darden then smashed the window
"Wait!" Casey yelled
"We're good" Darden said as he climbed in the window
"There's no vent! Back out!" Kelly yelled
"Luitenent? Where's the vent?" Darden asked as there was a bang
"Darden!" Casey yelled as a wave of fire burst into the room wiping Darden out with it

Later that night Louella ran into the firehouse on her way home from school
"Dad?!" She yelled
"I passed! I'm going to science camp! Your going to be so proud of me!" Louella yelled as she ran into the common room
"Louie" Kelly said in a sullen tone
"Where's my dad?" Louella asked
Casey then walked in
"Hey Lou? Why don't you go into my quarters for a sec?" Casey asked
"Okay sure! I'll get my certificate out to show dad!" Louella smiled as she ran out
"Heather wanted us to tell her" Casey muttered
Kelly then nodded before making his way to Casey's quarters. Louella had her things all lined up on dardens bed
"Louie honey" Kelly said, his face drenched in tears
"What's wrong with my dad?" Louella asked
"We got called to a house fire and we did everything we would normally do but your dad went in a little to early." Kelly explained
"Is he in the hospital? Can I go see him?" Louella asked
"Lou kiddo, he's not coming home. He - He was caught in the blast. Your dad passed away this morning" Casey explained
"No, Casey. He didn't" Louella sobbed
"I'm so sorry" Casey said
"But you said! You were going to protect him!" Louella yelled
"Come here Louie" Kelly said as he hugged her
Louella sobbed in Kelly's arms

It's a week later and Louella comes running into the common room
"Hey! Look what I made for dad! I'm going to give it to him when he gets home from the hospital!" She said holding up a drawing
"Uhm Louie don't you remember we told you? Dad passed away" Kelly explained
"Oh right, that's why dad has angel wings in the picture" Louella added
Kelly and Casey look at each other
"I keep forgetting, Science camp starts tomorrow and I keep thinking how proud he is going to be of me. But he's not going to see me do that is he?" Louella asked
"No he's not honey" Kelly said
"But you know what, he's with you all the time. And he's so so proud of you kiddo, I promise" Casey said
"I know, Dad was too good for this world that's why he left" Louella added
